Selanne thought getting Pronger was a prank
We knew that uh we have a great team and we just a one little missing piece. You know, I always remember Brian Burke asked me in the office after the season. I said, “Obviously, you played for million dollars and you know what, we are one good player away for winning the Stanley Cup and I know how much money you’re worth. If you willing to take 3.75 million, I promise you I spend every dollar for some player to get that as a done deal. my birthday, July 3rd. I get the phone call from Ducks PR guy and and he’s screaming. We got Pronger. I’m like, what? And I thought it was a prank because I didn’t even know that Chris Prer could be available. They just went to the Stanley Cup finals 30 seconds. I’m like, what you just said that we got Chris Pronger? I said, no, we didn’t. Yeah, I swear to God. Like I at that point I knew that we going to at least we’re going to have a unbelievable chance to win.
Teemu Selänne couldn’t believe it when he got the call that Chris Pronger was joining the Ducks.
