Oilers fans, after trading Skinner for Jarry—who immediately got hurt, of course—are once again demanding a goalie from Buffalo: Alex Lyon.

  2. Lyon for that Savoie kid, straight up. I hear he’s breaking out a bit this year. Seems like someone that Sabres should have looked at in the draft.

  3. Everyone has a price. If we get a good return then do it. If it’s a so so return or we’re not 100% satisfied then don’t do it

  5. I’ve been pleasantly impressed with Lyon this season, but, due to his age he doesn’t have the same value our other goalies do after this season. He’s a good goalie, and seemingly a great leader, but decent teams can provide leadership in other ways.

    My preference is still that we trade UPL for a ransom, but if that’s not an option, I see the logic in Lyon.

  10. The problem is Lyon or Ellis are the only goalie the oilers can afford. They will still have Jarry on the cap for as many years as UPL at 5.5m. Paying two goalies the same-ish money just doesn’t make sense for the them. Ellis isn’t proven and they need more of a guaranteed commodity for their playoff run so Lyon is the only goalie they want.

    Also, the Sabres aren’t really in the market for draft picks, we need to win and win now. I think they would be willing to move UPL for draft picks just to get rid of his cap hit (oilers cant take his cap on) so unless the Sabres are willing to move Lyon for draft picks, WHICH THEY SHOULDNT, I don’t really see the Sabres and Oilers as draft partners.

  13. So EDM fans think that Buffalo is going to just gift them a goalie by accepting a 3rd or 5th round pick and retaining salary? There are some hilariously bad takes in that thread.

  14. How ’bout Lyon for Jarry (assuming Jarry is out long term)? Solves the two headed goalie thing for Buffalo, at least for now, and may give them the #1 goalie they’ve been looking for.

    Trade UPL in the offseason for a bag of pucks to get his salary off the books.

  16. Very weird post with the “demanding” comment. Goalies do not fetch the haul we think they do, especially for backups/fringe starters.

  17. I think this is gonna be one of those “Kevyn Adams reportedly one of the GMs asking about X player” things. Like yeah, no duh, they’re desperate for a goalie. They’re probably calling every team with a goalie they think they have a chance at.
