[Friedman] Hearing Mason Marchment is being dealt from Seattle to Columbus

  1. Tbh I kinda love this – low cost gamble on a top 6 forward who could join us tomorrow in Anaheim (probably, if not he’ll join in LA on Monday)

  2. This is exactly what we need. Something isn’t working, we need to make moves now. Put Marchment second line with Monny/ KJ or Chinny to try and get things going, move everyone else down (send Lundestrom to Cleveland please I’m begging you he is SO bad)

  3. I was interested him in the summer when it seemed that Dallas was going to cap dump him, he’s been whatever this year but in a vacuum it feels like a better fit for the 2LW spot over any current in house option or other realistic external addition

(can also probably get assets that are close to that, if not exactly what we gave up if we are out of it at the deadline and he will be dealt)

  4. Really good move imo. This team needed a top6 winger in the summer. He’s had a rough year but we’re not giving up a whole lot to try and revitalize him.

  5. With this, we’re one step closer to having a 2nd line kinda maybe hopefully. Hope it works out for him and the team, we need *something* here.

  6. Didn’t really want him in the off-season as I felt our middle 6 wing spots were crowded already. Unfortunately half our middle 6 wings haven’t shown up this season. KJ is a ghost, Boone is constantly injured (not his fault just the reality of his career atp.) Chinny and Sillinger haven’t done anything with the opportunity. Bringing in Marchment to play on Monahans wing with Boone seems like it could work in theory.

  7. He’s an agitator with a physical edge that scored points in Dallas. I don’t hate it. At this point, with Z saying the team’s play is outrageous and unacceptable, DW needed to do SOMETHING. Either go all in and start dealing picks and unlikely to succeed prospects or sell and tear down. DW picked a lane, and it’s about damn time.

  8. Take it from a CBJ fan who watched Mush for a few years down here in Dallas.

The biggest knock on Mush is his tendency to take the dumbest penalties at the dumbest possible moments. Given our struggles on the PK this year, Mush won’t help in that department at all.

However he is a solid middle six guy who should elevate his line. He did it for a while down here with Duchene and Johnston (if I remember the lines correctly). Regardless, his being in the lineup should be a wake-up call to KJ, Silly, and Chinny.

There is a give and take; Marchment will give the 2nd line a shot in the arm. But he will take probably 4 mins. off every night to sit in isolation.
