I hate to see us waste a year of Mahomes prime. And I wouldn’t go try and field a losing team in 2026. But I’m starting to believe that a full 2 year rebuild is for the best. I wouldn’t have 2026 marked as the year to get into Super Bowl contention. Jones is getting older. McDuffie is either going to get overpaid or traded. And we simply don’t have any blue chippers are premium positions anymore besides Mahomes. Josh Simmons could develop into that and I think he will though.
The problem is we have massive cap allocations towards Chris Jones that we have to eat. And we simply have a lack of talent at Defensive Line, Receiver, Running Back, Tight End (post Kelce), Right Tackle, etc.
No, the sky isn’t falling. But drafting late for 7 years in a row finally caught up to us. Plus a few misses and lack of big time hits outside of Creed Humphrey have really bit us in the ass.
Josh Simmons to me signaled the beginning of the rebuild. But we have to continue to build on that. Nail the 2026 and 2027 drafts and we are right back into Super Bowl land.
