Thatcher Demko & Head Coach Adam Foote Post-Game Media | Canucks at Islanders (Dec 19, 2025)

How would you assess their performance in this one? What would you see in front of you tonight? >> Uh yeah, I think um I think we’ve played really well the last three. Um you know, it’s nice when each game kind of looks the same from our end. You know, we’ve been looking for that consistency and um kind of getting that identity going. So, um >> yeah, another good game. Uh great to start the road trip with three straight and um look to get another one tomorrow. >> What are you seeing from Zeve in front of you specifically? >> Yeah, I mean he skates like the wind. um really talented guy, really confident guy with the puck. Um guy that wants to kind of command the play and um you need those guys and um he’s stepped in. He’s been great for us. >> With Tyler Myers game 1,100 tonight, I know we celebrated game 1000 last year, but just with the maybe the loss of a captain and him kind of stepping up into more so of a leader role, what are you seeing from him and how much can you appreciate Tyler Myers? >> I mean, he’s been a leader since day one. Um, I can’t, uh, I can’t really, you know, put into words what he means to me personally and, um, I’m sure there’s a bunch of guys on our team that would say the same. Uh, I’ve learned so much from him off the ice. Um, you know, what it means to be a good father and good husband and, um, you know, it’s another great milestone for him. You know, well deserved. >> You start this trip on the heels of a big trade. three guys you have now seem to be doing pretty good job, but you go you went 150 minutes plus without allowing a single goal on the road against three New York teams. I mean, what’s the team’s confidence level coming out of this? >> Um, yeah. I mean, it it’s should be high. Um, I think just proving to ourselves that we know how to play the right way and that we can kind of turn it into a stretch of games and it’s not just a one-off when we play well. So, um, like I said, we’ve been looking for that consistency all year and, uh, be something we continue to look for. >> That you’re nine and one in the city, uh, I think across a long stretch. I mean, >> um, what is it about this area? >> Yeah, I mean, it’s definitely not my style. um a little too hectic for me at times, but um yeah, it’s surprising that uh I’ve kind of gotten the results that you mentioned there, but uh yeah, it’s odd. >> What does it mean you three straight wins for the team, but also four straight starts for you, right? Um just to sort of be able to play right now, every other night, and I know it’s been a little more spaced out than that, but uh how much fun you fun are you having at the moment just to sort of be in a rhythm of playing in NHL games? >> Um yeah. I mean, it’s my job, so um yeah, it’s nice to do my job. >> Those new guys brought energy. >> Yeah, I mean they’re they’re younger guys. Um you know, Z doesn’t really shut up too much, which is great. Um you know, he’s uh he’s got that young energy to him. Uh, so yeah, I mean it’s it’s it’s been great to have the guys around and and they’ve they fit in really well and um obviously it’s nice as a group to to win a few, you know, coming off the heels of that and um kind of get some momentum here and and get them done with the guys. So um yeah, it’s been good. >> Zeve said, you know, his experience with the group this week, it’s hard for him to figure out how the team was where it was. when you see the team rolling like it is now and playing that well, is it hard to think that as well? Like how how could we have been there to start with? >> Um, >> uh, I mean, it’s tough to answer. I I don’t think we were ever at a point thinking that we weren’t a good hockey team. Um, >> but yeah, I mean, the the feeling in the room and the feeling in the media and whatever else, you know, it’s always, you know, what have you done for me lately kind of thing. and we’re winning right now and and we like winning. So, um try to keep that up. >> Adam, that’s three straight wins for your team. What’s working for them so well right now? >> Well, tonight we had a good start. I mean, we we wanted to get in there in fourth check and the guys did. They had a lot of zip. Um we’re able to get get up give Denver a lead like that. And I mean, it was the big kill, too. Um that’s a big kill early with the five on three and gave our group a lot of confidence. There’s been a lot of firsts obviously with getting some new guys in this group and then tonight you also get David Camp gets his first. What can you say about just these young guys or these new guys stepping up and just adding to the score and the wins? Oh, >> it’s it’s nice for him. I mean, he was a little bit worried about it. We talked in practice yesterday and he said, “Hey, you’re doing so many other things right. You know, you’re defending and that’s his role is to defend and and you know, be a good defensive um centerman.” And you know, he he he looked like he the last couple games he’s been moving with the pucker better. Um you know, he had some time off as well, right? So he’s got his legs and getting comfortable with the system and the play and um it was nice to see him get that >> where you were a week ago uh to where you are at this moment. I know that you were happy with how the team had played some of those games that you’d lost, but could you have imagined, you know, the feeling in the team in the group and the positivity that’s going? I could I mean because you guys heard me say it’s a process. We we got slaughtered with injuries right before we got we won three in a row. We were four and two, second generating offense in the league and we we got slammed. Um in that in those moments there was games we still could have had. Uh you know, we didn’t get them. We felt like we had more wins and what we were trying to do and the players were all all on board was working. It just we were coming short. um you know uh was coming short for wins. So um it’s nice to see for me now what comes together is like the PK you know we you lose you lose sudtor you have Forbes out um Demer’s out there’s a lot of main PK guys that uh aren’t in play to start a season and and uh you know the other guys are growing and and understanding the system better and and participating in it. As far as the week go, the noise part, um it was inevitable for sure. We knew it was going to happen. We didn’t know when. Um and for me to see, um the guys gel as a group, as a team so quickly is where I feel good about that. And got to give a lot of credit to, you know, our veterans that when we were banged up and when all the noise was going on about that trade, we hung in there as a group. And I um I’m happy for those guys that they uh they they uh hung in there for each other and now we’re getting some results, but teams are going to be ready for us. So, we’ve got to keep on pushing, keep getting better. >> Adam, did it feel surreal to be coaching opposite a guy you won so many Stanley Cups with? >> Not really. He was my roommate for eight years. I thought he’d be uh up to some more tricks, but he he uh he’s a good person. You know, when you win a chance to win a a championship with a guy, it’s your roommate for eight years, you you know, you have a you have a good friend for life when you can win together. So, it was nice to see Patty yesterday and uh you know, he’s doing a good job over there with his team. And um you know, you just we’re both the same. We’re competitive, but try not to you know, when you go up against a guy that’s your friend like that, you try not even to look at him, not bring no emotions to it at all. to stay levelheaded and and not even just worry about your own team. >> Unknowns coming off the trade. You get the three guys and now you play these three games, you go 150 straight minutes without allowing a goal. How do you like the identity of the team coming out of this? >> Well, you like what you see. I mean, it’s it’s it’s it’s a trade. Three three new players, but uh it’s a whole it’s a whole thing. It’s uh you know if we’re doing the right things with this group with the goalending we’re getting you know we’re going to have we’re going to have a chance to win. Um you know there’s a lot of upside to the group the young guys we got. Um you saw the speed of Liam tonight is real and you see his strength for his age is very impressive at at that age. He’s just going to get stronger and uh it’s it it was good. It was good for us. It was good for Mitso.

  1. Im loving this . Quinn is a talented guy but for some of us old school guys it was maddening watching him hog the puck and hang on to it for too long . It’s demoralizing for talented guys to have to just try and get open and not get that pass . Watching Quinn reminded me of elementary school basketball gaurd not pass while the team works their tail off to get open . The guard got his points but the team never wins. Great players, team players make their teammates better . It felt like Quinn was more about his own statistics . I’m actually so happy that JT and Quinn are gone. I still lament them moving Horvat .. that was when the culture of the team went sour it was glaringly obvious .

  2. It's not confusing… Trade Sherwood while he's hot for a 1st round pick maybe even plus a prospect and trade Thatcher Demko for a package similar to Quinn Hughes trade. Lots of teams need a elite goalie and would pay up!! Demko is too old to keep with the route Canucks are taking. Timeline doesn't line up for both them anymore!!! Should have kept silovs and traded Lankenen. We got Medvedev and Tolopilo prime for 2-4 year rebuild!!! Knowing Francesco Aquilini he will force management to fast pace it to a 1 year retooling and 10 more years of mediocre Canucks!! Fire Aquilini!! STOP 🛑 BUYING TICKETS!!!!!! Force a sale….

  3. This is our team. The team we started with looking for a playoff run. We got rid of the 1 player who gave up and thought he was the only real player out on the ice. Well… we've proved them all wrong. Got the players and 1 inparticular that we wanted in the summer and look at the difference! This is not a tank year .This is a prove everyone wrong year! Keep it up boys! The true fans are with you! And the media and negative podcasts can jam it!

  4. The team still isn't talented enough to win a Stanley cup they need multiple top 5 first round picks and ownership that doesn't FasTrack rebuilds before the team is complete!!!!!!

  5. Even as the losses mounted, with extraordinary bad injury luck and the most miles travelled in the league, they were playing hard. Once the sad faced hobbit got shipped outta town its a huge weight off everyones shoulders, and now the team looks relaxed and like theyre enjoying their hockey. When EP40, returns, Blueger returns and if Chytil returns, the Forward group doesnt look so bad. Potentially EP, Rossi, Chytil, Blueger, with Raty as the 5th centerman. I still think tanking for a top 5 pick would be optimal to accelerate the process with the Wild Pick in June plus Cootes slotting in next year… If we had an elite lottery pick to add to that, the future depth up front all of a sudden looks promising. I figure Kane and Sherwood will fetch a third and a couple second round picks for June as well. The only guy i wish we had a suitable replacement for is Myers, but i guess with 3 dmen under 23 years old in Willander, D Petey and Biuim, perhaps having an old vet aint so bad for now.
