Dodgers Andy Pages will not take part in the World Baseball Classic with Team Cuba. He had shown strong interest in playing from an early stage. However, Cuba declined to accept American-born Cuban players such as Zach Neto, and that decision is believed to have influenced Pages.

  1. Literally there aren’t enough Cuban players who actually want to play for Cuba for Team Cuba to start turning down people for not being Cuban enough.

You’re best player plays for Mexico. Figure it out.

  2. Pages was eligible to play because he was born in Cuba. However, Cuban officials refused to allow the participation of American-born Cuban players such as Zach Neto and Carlos Rodón. That decision is believed to have influenced Pages’ choice, and he later announced that he would withdraw from the tournament.

  3. This federation’s whole obsession with ideology sucks because an ideal Cuban team is an absolute monster in my eyes:

    * Lineup of Yordan, Yandy, Arozarena, Lourdes Gurriel, Luis Robert, Adolis, Neto, Quero, etc
    * Rotation of Carlos Rodon, Nestor Cortes, Livan Moinelo
    * Bullpen of Aroldis Chapman, Raisel Iglesias, Adrian Morejon and Yennier Cano

  4. Well, he was their only really good MLB player still left on their roster. Cubas back to shooting themselves in the foot again

Have fun with Ibanez, Moncada, and Moinelo (well, he’s actually pretty damn good but he’s a SP)

  5. Wait so they don’t like defectors playing for them and they don’t want American born Cuban players…but Pages was still considering to play until deciding not to. So which category does Pages fall into?

  6. I mean, this is how international tournaments should be, in any sport. You’re trying to show off the sporting prowess of the country. Having players born and raised elsewhere mixed in makes this more like a club competition, where you’re just buying victories, which is kind of pointless for competitions amongst countries

  7. Take that time Andy to work with Dodger coaches to improve your hitting consistency. I wanna see you lockdown that centerfield position.
