Patrick Roy on Islanders’ 4-1 loss to Canucks
I guess the the the the chance that we had early on the three on five on three. Um that was a good opportunity to try to create something and and I I thought we didn’t do much on it. Um I think the only chance we had was Pulley’s one-time and [snorts] then after that I mean obviously I mean they that I think that gave them some momentum and then they scored that first goal and then second one and then third one but um I just I I’d like to help them a little more for our offense. I have some part to play in this. Uh I’d like I would like to do a better job helping our guys. I feel like we’re we’re looking for perfect play too much and some nights when you don’t have the same execution, you got to find a different way to to uh score goals and and I thought that we still trying those like perfect play instead of throw how many passes we try in in across that was cut by them instead of throwing at the net and then and go through the traffic or or find a way to get those rebounds. Uh and actually the six on five that’s what we did. We throw it around the net. We we, you know, we back and great play by Richie on this one to Anders. But I feel like I could do a better job helping our guys. I mean, create more offense and and and be more um more connected, but simplified things. You know, when when things are not when things are going well, you’re fine. But it’s when things are not as as you know, going the way execution is not as good. And tonight, I felt like that’s what lacking. We we had a hard time to hit tape totape pass. I mean, we had a lot of guys didn’t had a great night and and it’s probably one of our worst game at home all year. So, I mean, we all go through those and you just hope that they don’t happen, but when they happen, you got to find a way to to battle through and find a way to get, you know, to come back and win the game. And we didn’t do it tonight. >> You have to turn it around tomorrow, come out with much more energy, you think, right from the beginning? >> That’d be great, obviously. Um, but again, it’s it’s about playing simple hockey and and and be connected and and and you know, sometimes it’s just throw pucks at the net and then all of a sudden you’re you know, you’re you’re building some momentum out of this. When when you say help them more, is is it more about, you know, creating the right combinations out there or is it imparting that they need to play simpler? I think it’s about showing clips where we could, you know, we we focus a lot on our neutral zone for check. We focus a lot on our Dzone coverage. Maybe now it’s time to just go through and and show them like positive clip that hey, when we’re playing this way, we have success and and and coming with those. And so, you know, it’s when you don’t practice a lot and you play a lot, you know, you play more than you practice. Sometimes you just you just need to, you know, okay, let’s go back to basic here and and and throw pucks at the net and then um and I think that will help us a lot. >> I I know he skated on his own this morning. Is is Bo going with you to Buffalo at all? >> No. >> Okay. >> Um I I know you were a little hesitant to put Bokeist on the left side. Just what did you see from him tonight? >> It’s tough right tonight. I mean, let’s let’s be honest. I mean, we we we didn’t had our be best game and you know, everybody was the same. I mean, for some reason, um but I mean, it’s a it’s hard for for someone come in and out the lineup and then expecting him to play at a certain level. I mean, takes time and um it [snorts] was it was um he did some good things and and obviously I mean um you know it’s uh it’s a team to to me tonight it’s a team loss >> was um >> more than individual things. >> I I and I just wanted to check because he he Shabonov took a hit I think early in the game and then went 10 minutes in the second without a shift. Was everything okay? >> I didn’t notice that. I mean I apologize. I mean I it was just probably circumstance because he I No, >> I know you guys have battled the injury bug this for the last couple of weeks here, but what have you noticed in the team the transition game with Horvette out? >> Um I don’t know. I I feel like we’re doing the same same thing. I mean, could we be a little more in our lanes instead of, you know, like a lot of movement? Be more simple. I think that’s part of what we’re talking about, you know, like keep keep our game, play north more than play east and west. And I feel like maybe we play a little too much east and west. So, but I didn’t, you know, today we just didn’t had a good

Mayfield should have been a scratch
Time to change the PP coach. This team always splays down its competition. Does it matter if you beat Colorado and lose to Vancouver?
You tell them Roy! Listen to a all time greats goalie legend!
Boohoo
I’ll bet he could train for 6 weeks and still be one of the best goalies in the league.
Demko when healthy is easily top 3 in the league. He is playing to get on the Olympic team and I hope he makes it as he deserves it. He just needs to stay healthy which is a big ask these days. I'd play him before Hellebuyck and certainly before Oettinger.
Horvat and Barzal have to be a great set of players for any team. Horvat being injured is not helpful of course.
Yeah don't give the Canucks any credit…………..Sigh!
Roy is gone, if team don't get better …win at home, or go back to coaching junior 😉 win, or coaching turnstile moves on …talk is cheap, winning is sweet 😋
Bro we pwned you tonight.
