This is EXACTLY what Dodgers Fans wanted to hear…

This is exactly what Dodgers fans wanted to hear as we just got some fantastic news on both Gavin Stone and River Ryan from manager Dave Roberts. We’ll tell you what he said, the latest reality behind the Dodgers pitching situation and all the news you need to know right here on Dodgers Digest. Welcome everybody. I’m Jace Andrews. I appreciate you tuning in and hanging out with me here on the show. If you’re looking for daily coverage of the Los Angeles Dodgers, make sure you go down there and hit that subscribe button. We recently hit 12,000 strong and I’m hoping we can grow that number even further before the start of the 2026 season as the Dodgers go for a repeat. Let’s talk a little bit about the Dodgers rotation as it stands right now. Now, there were rumors about Tyler Glass now being potentially traded away. Those rumors were then nullified once Robleski or excuse me, it’s more saying glass now came out and Millie said, “Hey, the organization told me I am not going to be traded.” So that is taken into account that Blake Snell, Yoshu Nou Yamamoto, Tyler Glassnell, Shoi Otani are the guaranteed four slots on the Dodgers rotation as it stands right now. That being said, there is a lot of talk about Roki Sasaki taking that fifth slot, but River Ryan and Gavin Stone, as we zoom in on those two, they could have a real shot to take over the final spot slash. The Dodgers have been known to run a six-man rotation just to help out with arm strength and in some ways it’s a little bit better for show Otani purposes. They could do that again this year. Um injuries last year kind of forced their hand in some aspect to run somewhat of a six-man rotation. Either way, I think that could be a very real reality this season. And so that’s where we get the update from Dave Roberts. You see yesterday he was talking about both Gavin Stone and River Ryan and kind of want to portray his excitement for them this season and the expectations going into opening day for 2026. And so uh here is what Dave Roberts said on Stone and uh River River Ryan. Quote, “It’s exciting. I think it’s easy to talk about the guys that we have sort of slotted in as far as starters, but guys like River Gavin two years ago, Gavin threw the most innings as a starter for a championship team. River is very talented as well. End quote. It’s no secret Dave Roberts likes Ryan and likes Gavin Stone. Both of these guys have come up to the major leagues in their different times and have proceeded to pitch well. Um, if you kind of go back to really their their injury history is what we have to look at more. Aaron Colema of Dodgers Nation saying quote, “Rivers Ryan and Gavin Stone missed all of the 2025 season after they both underwent surgery. And while they couldn’t help the Dodgers during their injury crisis last year, Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes believed they’d be ready for spring training.” End quote. Now, talking about the I guess past of both Ryan and of Stone, it’s really likely that they can get back to the same form we saw them in in the few MLB appearances we saw from Ryan and the 2023 year we saw from Stone. Now, I first want to talk about River Ryan and kind of what he’s been able to do. So, as we all know, last year he appeared in uh four games for the Los Angeles Dodgers, having a one and a record with a 1.33 earned run average. Um, his whip was also very good. Uh, I like a lot of what he shows for this, but again, he had to have surgery after this and it derailed the entire season for him. In fact, he didn’t even play for the rest of the year. His MILB stats, a 3.22 earn run average in his entirety of his career. Uh, does have 11 losses, funny enough, but it’s not really something we need to worry about. 1.25 whip in the MLB career. So, his stats in the major leagues are a little bit better. And sometimes that’s the way it goes is you almost I don’t want to say he is this, but you get to a point where you’re such a highly touted prospect that you almost need to be in the majors to get up for a game. I guess I don’t know if that’s the right way to say it, but I think in some ways it’s it’s the way we look at it is that pitching in the minor leagues is not do you justice for a lot of different things. for River Ryan. He could easily jump himself into this group and make him where yeah, he is a part of the Dodgers plan for this upcoming season. He is a huge piece of what the rotation might be. Now, there’s rumors of Scooble. There’s rumors of the Dodgers getting another starting pitcher. There’s talk that rookie Sasaki will take that fifth slot, but I think in some ways Ryan or Stone should be able to get a shot as a starter this season, probably on opening day, at least in my my take of it. Now, who gets that spot is the question. We’ve talked about River Ryan. Let’s go to Gavin Stone for a second because his career has been a bit different. Obviously, he appeared in 2023. Um, right now he’s got a 4.52 earn run average in his MLB career, a 1.34 whip, got 11 wins in five losses in this past year at the MLB level, a 3.52 earn run average. He was just not ready last season. They’re both the same age at 27. I think they’re both probably similarly scouted by the Dodgers in terms of the way that they want to use them, I think, is the best way to put that. With that to be said, I think when you put these all into fruition, I think that you have to go River Ryan, but I don’t know. I don’t know. Either way, looking at their injuries, we did get an update from GM Brandon Gomes on them saying, quote, “We expect them to have a pretty normal year, whatever a normal year is coming off surgery.” So, what he’s saying in that as aspect is, hey, we’re going to play them and they’re going to be coming off surgery. So, that’s going to be something we’re going to watch, but we do think they’re going to have a pretty normal year. So, I ask you the question. I want you to be the GM in this situation. If you had to pick just one of Stone or Ryan to be on the Emily roster on opening day, who would you rather it be? Stone who’s coming more recently off surgery um or not more recently, but is more recently in the major leagues or Ryan, I should say, or excuse me, River Ryan who’s coming off more recent stint or Stone who pitched in 2023. Let me know your thoughts in the comment section. Who would you rather have on the opening day roster or for River Ryan S for Gavin Stone? Now, the good thing about the Los Angeles Dodgers is that we can talk about River Ryan, we can talk about Stone, but Dave Roberts said it best here in this quote, and then you layer in Robo and what he did for us and Emit Sheen. So, we’ve got guys that are on the comeup, guys. I just think it speaks on how well equipped we are for not only this year, but beyond. End quote. That’s such a huge thing for the Dodgers knowing that it’s not just River Ryan, it’s not just Yav Stone, it’s all of their young pitchers. Justin Robleski this this past year had a RA of zero with six strikeouts in four appearances over five innings in his postseason career and he obviously won his first World Series. I am excited to say that I think Robo is going to come out here and play fantastic. An Oklahoma State graduate worked as with the obviously Tulsa Drillers and the Oklahoma City Dodgers. Now the Oklahoma City comments I guess should say and now to the Dodgers. He pitched fantastic in the time they asked him for. And just looking at the future of this Dodgers team, the dynasty doesn’t stop. And Robert said it best. The guys we have on the come up. The guys that are going to be making their way up to major league level and getting better at the major league level, it’s going to be amazing. I’m excited for it. I’m hopeful that all these guys can really make a big payoff for the Dodgers and maybe one day be uh be compared to some pretty good grades. Now, one final thing I do want to mention when looking at this pitching rotation is we talked so much about injuries last season, and one guy I didn’t really get too much into was Imit Sheen. He could easily be a sixth starter for the Los Angeles Dodgers as well. I think that would be a very good choice. But overall, I would love it if they did get Tariq Scubble, don’t get me wrong. But they don’t need him. They don’t. They really don’t. Again, you never don’t need Tariq School, but in terms of the way they could go out there and win the World Series again, Tariq School would be just a cherry on top. It would be. Now, we’ll see if that actually comes to fruition. If they actually do trade for him, but I like our starting five. I think they’re going to be great, and I’m excited for this upcoming season. I hope you are, too. We appreciate you watching. We hope you have a great rest of your day, and we’ll see you next time. Peace out, guys.

  1. I think Stone, Ryan and Sheehan and Roki will get plenty of innings..Whoever gets sore or injured and we need a spot start, we have plenty of beasts ready to go..Sheehan and Roki have post season experience ..I think they'll get first dibs .LETS GO

  2. The only starting pitchers capable of going a full season + playoffs next year are Yamamoto, Snell, Ohtani and to a lesser extent, Glasnow due to his injury history. Sheehan, Roki, Stone and Ryan will be slow played due to age and injury history. Sheehan is the healthiest of the bunch and will likely be pushed harder than the other three. Unless a major trade takes place, all 8 pitchers will be used in the rotation.
