If the pegs aren’t wide/long enough to support, maybe cut up a pool noodle to create a bit more width/length. The base might need a bit of added weight if you aren’t planning to attach it to the desk.
What you need is something with a cylinder say 8-12 inches long with a suction cup on one end so you can affix it to the desk. Maybe google that?

I was going to suggest Dollar store paper towel holder, but if you want to have some fun a Styrofoam ball/head with wires sticking out so that the tentacles come out in different directions. Would probably need to mount or weigh down the base
