Grading the Last 5 Houston Texans 1st Round Picks #nfl #nfldraft #texans

Let’s grade the last five Houston Texans first round picks. A team that hasn’t really picked in the first round over the last decade a whole lot. And they haven’t had a first round pick since the 2023 draft. And they actually had two top three picks in this draft. The first one we’ll talk about, CJ Shroud, the second overall pick out of Ohio State. He’s obviously their franchise quarterback. I’m going to give this one an A minus. Yes, Shout maybe peaked in his rookie year so far, but I think has looked the part this year with maybe not the best receiving core, the rotating offensive line over the last two years. And then they traded up at number three to select the first defensive player in the 2023 draft, Will Anderson, the edge rusher out of Alabama. I’m giving this one an A+. Anderson has been one of the best edge rushers in the NFL since he got drafted. He has over 10 sacks here in year number three. And the reason why the Texans are a solid team right now because of what they did in the 2023 draft and the 2022 draft. They selected Derek Stingley, third overall out of LSU. I’m giving this pick an A+ as well. I think he’s been an elite corner ever since he’s been drafted. He was an allp pro first team member last year. But yeah, maybe I can’t guess them too much because in the 2022 draft, I unfortunately have to give them an F for another firstrounder. 15th overall, they selected Kenyan Green out of Texas A&M. Green played 15 games with the Texans in 2021, wasn’t great, and then ended up missing all of 2023 with a shoulder injury. And then they had the 23rd overall pick in the 2019 draft. They went offensive line. They selected Titus Howard out of Alabama State who’s played on the exterior, who’s played on the interior. I’m going to give this one a B+. He’s been here for a little bit. He’s been asked to play multiple positions for Houston.

  1. Tytus isn’t elite or anything but he’s a solid player, been here for a long time, and he plays wherever he has to on the line without complaining (even though he’s a better tackle, he’s still basically the best or second best guard on the roster). Really like having him on this team.

  2. Solid solid ranking— I would say though that it would be fair to really bring up just how underrated and/or undermined/under recognized C.J. is as not only a QB, but a developing and underprotected one, and one who hasn't at any point been through a guy who has cemented himself as a coordinator, let alone coach.

Nonetheless, it is best if the lion stays quiet… After all, it is he who has the best shot at the big prize when all the gazelles are biklering about a lesser one while the actual alpha is in the down-low unbenounced to them

  3. Nick caserio knows how to draft DBs that’s for sure (pitre, bullock, stingley, Lassiter) insane. I just wish he would hit more often on the OL/DL

  4. All correct. I know it may be greedy but I look back on that Green pick and still think how much better the line would be if they took Linderbaum instead, or if they didn't trade back and took Hamilton. Imagine a secondary with Stingley, Lassiter, Pitre, Bullock, and Hamilton.

  5. They have gotten some great players in later parts of the draft as well. Pitre, Bullock, Lassiter, Dell,Woody, Higgins and Noel. I mean Nick Caserio and DeMeco have knocked it outta the park through out the drafts together. đŸ€˜

  6. Caserio should not be allowed to make trades though, because how do the Texans only have one 2026 first rounder. They traded away Tunsil and gave the Giants their first in 25 to draft dart. He keeps trading back in the draft and not getting great picks in return.
