Passan & Rosenthal Reporting: Blue Jays Are Very Much In On Alex Bregman…Is It Legit Or Leverage?
All right, guys. Let’s dig into and unpack this latest rumor around the Blue Jays and Alex Bregman. Try to find out if there is any legitimacy to this. If there is some leverage happening, maybe something being leaked by the Blue Jays hoping to get into the ear of a certain high-profile free agent target. Maybe it is on the Alex Bregman side of things trying to get into the ear of certain teams. We’re going to dig into this. Make sure to leave your comments down below. If you’re a Blue Jays fan, do you want this? And in this Ken Rosenthal article, it kind of identifies maybe just how important the Blue Jays view Bregman and where they have him on that pecking order. So, we’ll dig into this. Make sure to leave your comments down below. If you are a Blue Jay fan, do you want Alex Bregman? Leave your comments down below. Smash that like if you enjoy your time here. And let’s get this thing started. Again, over the weekend, Saturday evening, we had this from Ken Rosenthal. But before I get into this, I also want to show you guys this because on Friday, Jeff Passen was a guest on the Michael K show and he also talked about Alex Bregman and the Blue Jays. Quote, I don’t think the Blue Jays are done. I think they’re gonna get a big bat. Not sure if it’s Kyle Tucker or Alex Bregman or Bobette or multiple of them. There is Jeff Passen again doubling down on the idea of the Blue Jays getting two big bats. But we’re focusing on Bregman here. And in that quote, he talks about Bregman and he also says the Blue Jays are very much in the mix for Alex Bregman. Now, this was again on Friday. So, the Ken Rosenthal piece comes out after that. Let’s take a look at what Ken said because he talks about how Mitch Bannon, who writes and covers the Blue Jays, uh Mitch Bannon over the winter meetings talked about how Bregman was a potential backup plan. And we probably all remember that. So, he is going from backup plan to might be more than that according to Ken Rosenthal. And this is where it gets kind of interesting. Do we think do we think that’s the case? This is from Bregman and his sources. Team officials have been in recent contact with Bregman’s agent, Scott Boris. According to sources, brief briefed on the conversations. So, this is an interesting scenario because if we’re moving Bregman up the importance ladder, what does that potentially mean for Kyle Tucker? What does it potentially mean for Bo Bashette? Could the Blue Jays go and get both Alex Bregman and Bo Bashette if the Kyle Tucker thing isn’t going to happen? And if they go get Kyle Tucker and they don’t bring back Bo Bashette, do they do they go get Bregman? Do they have the money for that? There’s so many different avenues here to try to dissect. And again, the leverage question, where’s it coming from? Who benefits from it. First, let’s take a look at the Blue Jays situation and and their current [snorts] lineup. Now, I believe 100% that the Toronto Blue Jays will get one of at least one of Kyle Tucker or Bo Bashette. And in that world, Nathan Lucas either directly or through a domino effect, Nathan Lucas loses reps. Unfortunately, Nathan Lucas was awesome in October. Really stepped up for the Toronto Blue Jays. found a path to some playing time with the Anthony Santandere injuries and really capitalized on it. I would hate for him to lose his spot, but there are opportunities for upgrades here and if you’re going to improve your team, you do that. Nathan Lucas maybe becomes the fourth outfielder and is the first man up if there is an injury situation. You got you got to think Santandere, there’s a chance he could get hurt again. George Springer just went through an incredible run of good health fortune. Is that going to continue again? And again, so you you need somebody like like Nathan Lucas hanging around there. But if you bring Kyle Tucker on board, he’s your right fielder. Santon Dere goes to left. Nathan Lucas is done. If you bring Bo Bashette back, Bo Bashette is the second base or the shortstop, which however you want to do that with Bo and Jimenez. But it is Ernie Clement that has to move. Ernie moves to third and it is Barger that goes to the outfield. I I would think Barger goes to right and then it is Santandere Springer DH/ left field scenario. That’s with those two. Now if you want to include Bregman into the equation with either of them, if you want it to be Tucker and Bregman or Bo and Bregman, then Ernie Clement is most likely losing his job. And do you want that off of that October run that he just went through? Do you want him to not have a spot? I’m kind of uncomfortable with that. And and especially when I think about the the financial situation, they’re already over the pay the payroll from last year. And if you bring Kyle Tucker on board, look, if you bring Kyle Tucker on board and Bo isn’t back, I think the only reason why Bo’s not back is because of the money. So I if if you bring Kyle Tucker on board, if if Bo’s not back because of the money, then Bregman’s not coming because of the money. And if you bring Bo back, because let’s say Kyle Tucker decided he wanted to go to the Yankees, then we are again in a situation where Ernie’s losing his job. Now, for Nathan Lucas to lose his job, Nathan Lucas to transition to a fourth outfielder, I I can I could settle on that, but I don’t want to, and no disrespect to Alex Bregman, I don’t want to have both of two very important key World Series run players, two of those guys to lose their spot. So, if you bring Bo back, I think you’re done. I think you’re done. The only room is if you don’t bring Bo and you don’t bring Tucker back. But as I have already identified, I don’t think that happens. I think they get one of them. Let’s say Kyle Tucker gets a better deal from the New York Yankees. Okay, the Blue Jays will go fullcourt press to bring Bo Bashette back. And again, if you get Kyle Tucker and you don’t have the money, you wish Bo Bashette well on his future endeavors and you move on, you’re not bringing Alex Bregman back at that situation. And again, I have I I’ve already said I I I think the money is there. If Bo is going to look, if you bring Kyle Tucker on board and you give him his money, can you convince Bo Bashette to if he wants to be on the team because he’s loving the direction, he feels the unfinished business thing, do you convince him to say, “Hey, we have to be creative with your contract. Uh we can give you 10 million in salary. We can give you $10 million signing bonus. Um, and then we’re but but but we’re going to have to make up some money in year two and three because in year two of your deal, you are uh you’re going to be in a or we are in a situation where the payroll comes down significantly and we’ll be good to get you your money back in year two, but you got to be creative in year one. Um, I could see them doing that scenario for the two of them. I can’t I just don’t I don’t see it with Alex Bregman. Alex Bregman is the play if Bo’s not coming back and Kyle Tucker isn’t coming. So, this is an interesting scenario to think. Again, I I’m bringing this up because in this article, they talked about or Ken talked about how Bo might be more than a potential backup plan. I I I I I disagree with that. I think if we are getting to a point where Alex Bregman is in play, then we’re going to the backup plan. Then the then the front office is already hearing bad things about Kyle Tucker and his desire to I don’t know have not he doesn’t like the idea of going through customs uh you know with every with every road trip uh or and every time he’s coming back. Maybe he doesn’t want to deal with the Canadian taxes. I don’t know. Like if that’s the situation, I think we’re already on plan B. And if if Bo Bashette again, I I I cannot imagine a world where Bo Bashette the news on from Bose’s camp is that he really likes Boston more than Toronto. I I I do not imagine that happening. So where’s this all coming from? Because it just seems like we have to be at the backup plan. And the backup plan is that Tucker and Bo are both gone. And I think that is really the only scenario. So where is this coming from? Because they’re not both gone. They are both on the board. I feel like this comes from you could look at it two different ways. From a from a Blue Jay side of thing. This could be coming from the Blue Jays because maybe they want to get into Kyle Tucker’s ear or Kyle Tucker’s agency representatives ears because there’s no movement. you’re you’re hearing that Kyle Tucker wants to meet with other teams. So, which is I mean that’s obviously going to happen. You you know that’s he’s not going to just talk to you, but maybe the conversations are progressing with some of those other teams and you want to instill a little bit of concern in him and his camp that hey, the Blue Jays, they’ve got other options and they really like the idea of Alex Bregman here. Bregmano, which again I don’t see how that that happens, but uh doesn’t mean that Kyle Tucker and his camp doesn’t see how that could happen. So it feels like it could be a leverage play to try to get movement with Kyle Tucker. I don’t think it would be too intended to get into Bo Bashett’s camp because I think Bo Bashett is u is is somebody that they’re going to let go out explore the market, get your best offers, and then he’ll come back to Toronto when that is all said and done and they will and and and they’ll basically uh be given an opportunity to to match that offer. So, I don’t think they’re really trying to push Bo. But they could be trying to push Kyle Tucker because maybe Bo’s got offers and Bo doesn’t want to sit around and wait all day. And if Bo’s got offers and Kyle’s like, “Yeah, it’s going to be another month.” And Bo’s like, “I’m not waiting another month.” Then you could see this coming from the Blue Jays. Coming from the side of Alex Bregman and and more specifically Scott Boris. You have a situation where I can’t imagine Scott Boris wants his client to go through the same thing he went through last year where the offers aren’t there, the teams aren’t there, the money isn’t there, the years aren’t there, and he’s still a free agent, and it’s and it’s getting late. So, Scott Boris may be putting this out there. Boris court may be putting this out there to try to light a fire attaching him to one of the most aggressive teams this off season to motivate the Boston Red Sox, the Tigers, the Cubs, any Arizona Diamondbacks, anybody else that has played him. Think about this. We now have in the last 48 hours an Arizona team that seemed to be be looking at a at at financial concerns when it comes to their payroll is all of a sudden in on Alex Bregman and now the Toronto Blue Jays who’ve been so heavily linked to Kyle Tucker and Bobett are now moving Bobette up the ladder not just as a backup plan. How’s it smelling guys? So, it feels like there could be something coming out of the Boris Corp camp to try to get Boston to act because if you’re Boston, look, if he goes to Arizona, bummer. Too bad. Uh, we wish you the best. You got your buddy. Have fun out in the NL West. If he goes to the Cubs, again, have fun in the NL Central. We’ll miss you. Really wish we could have had you back. Just didn’t want to go long on years. If he goes to the Tigers, even, that’s too bad. We’ll miss you. We wish we could have worked something out. Good luck. But man, if he goes to the Blue Jays, similarly to the the the shoe being on the other foot, uh if Bo goes to the Red Sox, oh, that’s going to hurt. If if Bregman goes to the Blue Jays after having just been in Boston, Red Sox fans, you don’t want any part of that. You don’t want to see that happen. That probably makes you want to throw up. So to grab the Blue Jays in this, do you think that is a play to try to get get to John Henry, to get to Craig Brezlo, to get them to just just imagine it for a minute? Just put it in your head. The thought of us signing a six-year deal with the Toronto Blue Jays. Do you like that at all? No, you don’t. Well, let’s get back to the table, then. So, I could see how this could be a leverage play on Bregman’s and and Boris’s side, not wanting to have this drag out again. Want to try to get that guaranteed contract, try try to force the Boston Red Sox to do a contract, do a long-term deal where it’s not something they seem to uh interested in doing right now. Very reluctant on the long-term deal are the Boston Red Sox. And but that’s what Bregman wants. I think that’s the only way to get the Bregman deal done. And if it’s not Boston, where else are we going? What’s the market look like? Do we have to start bringing other teams in? Either e either having conversations, picking up the phone so we can say we’re talking to them, uh or or are we just I mean, I don’t know, making up. I wouldn’t be surprised if half of the stuff sometimes is just made up and it’s coming from an agent to try to force movement. So, this will be interesting. What do you guys think? Is this legit with with everything with the Toronto Blue Jays and their scenario and everything we’ve heard and everything with Bregman? And again, he went through this last year. I I got to think Scott Boris is like, I don’t want to do this again. I got Pete signed quick. Pete didn’t have to hang out and languish on the free agent market. I got to do the same thing for Alex Bregman. Is this to get teams to move on Bregman? Is this on the Blue Jays side trying to get Kyle Tucker to move and make a decision? Comment down below. Let me know what you think about this Alex Bregman Blue Jays rumor that’s gaining steam. Friday, Jeff Passen Saturday, Ken Rosenthal. Wow would be crazy if Toronto signed another cheating Astro.
Please no
Springer and bregman = 🗑️ cheaters
I think if the Jays run it back with the same lineup hoping Santander steps it up, thats a huge missed opportunity. It needs to be Tucker plus 1 of Bo, Marte, Okamoto, Bregman, Murakami. The world series lineup needed 1 more big bat
Blue Jays Really going to form an Astros reunion with Tucker, Bregman and Springer? That would be interesting 😂
They can’t keep getting away with this! 😂
I hope it’s just an agent creating his market because they don’t need Bregman. Lateral move at best.
Based on the possibility of Tucker + Bo. Based on the positions Bregman + Bo could realistically work as a backup but Tucker Bregman likely would not work although the Toronto Astros plan would be very funny. Either way with Bo Tucker or Bo Bregman Ernie is on the bench as a utility infielder, but with Bregman Tucker second base is the hole meaning Barger is on the Bench which doesn’t make sense.
It feels like a Boras bait trying to escalate interest in Bregman.
The Houston Blue Jays
Ernie will get plenty of reps in the infield when he can play every position.
Even If they sign bregaman and Bichette. They have no backups.
Clement is the ultimate Swiss army man.
Fills in for any infielder in need of rest or injury.
Bro they are gonna be the Toronto Astros 😂
Until it happens, I feel we will loose out on all three, hope i am wrong.
Just bring bo back lets not disrupted what we allready have chemistry is everything lets not screw it up
Bo wants to come back lets get that done asap
We allready know what we have with bo we dont know about the other 2 meaning tucker or bregman
How many former Astros do the Jays need?
The Jays should sign Bregman and Tucker.

Pathetic 🤣
MLB offseason is so wild man. We've got this guy planning on some combination of Tucker, Bichette, and Bregman (on top of Cease) for the Jays, while I'm over here just hoping my disgustingly cheap Cubs can afford a Refsnyder…
Jays had the best overall offensive numbers in the post season so running it back this time with Bo fully healthy will make them better.
Jays could have swept Yankees and not gone to Game 7 against Mariners had Bo played.
Tucker needs to hurry the hell up with the decision. Whether it’s the jays or not, what are we doin here. This has ohtani written all over it.
See jay get nine them
The reason all these rumors are hitting the fan is because of the perfect storm of the Blue Jays being flush with enormous amounts of cash and being willing to spend it, and no other team willing to match them for long term big buck contracts. So now every top flight free agent is being touted as "in with the Jays" as the top players are looking for that monster deal. It's become obvious the Jays aren't done yet, and are eyeing one mor big bat for a long term big-buck deal. So we have Tucker, Bo and Bregman in the mix, and speculation is going crazy right now trying to sort it all out.
LOL, Boras tried this sh*t on my Mariners for leverage. M's were "huh?' Agents spread rumors the same way Bonnie Blue does her legs..
Jays have a MLB leader in DRS at 3rd base already with Earnie Clement. And they have Barger too. Its a bit of a log jam.
We want Bichette back because he grew up in the Blue Jays system and improves the team at 2nd.
We want Tucker because he's a power left handed hitter that is an upgrade over Lukes in left field.
Bregman over Clement/Barger at 3rd? No, not worth the money and not much of an upgrade.
So, no.
Jays aren't bidding against themselves. Sign now or we out. This goes to Tucker, Bo, Bregman.
They have wanted him for a while and courted him last year before he signed with Boston. I never saw his name tied to the team, but I thought they would sign him.
He goes to third, Clement goes to second. I don't think the Jays will sign Bo or Tucker. I think it is Bregman they wanted and Im content if that is their choice. Let someone else overpay for Tucker who didnt even have a good year at a band box like Wrigley. Bo does get injured a lot. He plays very hard. The Dodgers will sign him for their bench and theyll likely get Tucker as well.
I would love to see Tucker, love his swing, think he'd be great in the 2 spot
typical Boras ploy he is annoying!
The Jays are in on every free agent.
Could Jay’s get all 3? Be creative with their contracts. Next year Springer is off the books, pay Tucker or Bergman more in back end of contracts when santandar is off books etc. still pay them big money but pay them all at different times
Pass on Bregman I would rather have Bellinger
Agree with Jim @10:42min mark about Jays given last opportunity to match offer for Bo.
As a Jays fan, the ideal situation is for Tucker to sign with Mets, Bregman to Tigers, and Bo playing 2nd base for Jays.
