[Nightengale] Mets and Reds engaged in talks regarding Luis Robert, Jr.

Stearns MO thus far: cheap, short term commitments, solid players with high upside.
Robert is at worst a better Tyrod Taylor. At best, Byron Buxton. If he sucks, he’s a bench bat and we cut him lose after 2026.
Depends on his cost but I think this is a good trade. But also like Polanco and Semien, it’s what we do on top of this. We still need that big game changer.
One big bat and one big pitcher on top of Robert and this team is much better from 2025.
one of these guys is Luis Robert ($20m), the other is Tyrone Taylor ($3m).
Please god no. Guarantee if they do this we’ll hate him by the end of May for sucking and blocking Benge.
I don’t get the allure of Luis Robert. He had one insane year and one good one around league average or worse years. He can’t stay healthy and I don’t want to move pieces to get that can potentially be used for a better piece.
He sucks. No thanks.
He’s a bum with decent upside basically.
pls no
Why do they want that guy so bad…?
I’m assuming all teams engage in talks
I swear I’ve been hearing about this rumor for three years now.
In a vacuum, Robert would be fine to have. He isn’t ever returning to be 2023 line, but his second half suggests that there may still be more to him than his 2024/2025 lines indicate. He’s a positive value defender in CF who is at least credible as an everyday bat. If all he costs is money and prospects I would have to look up, then that’s fine. He also doesn’t preclude signing Tucker or Bellinger. So, if the price is right, go for it.
Robert is a bum
Had one good year and is a solid reclamation project making a ton of money. Seems like this is a Stearns brand guy!
I don’t trust Bob Nightengale, lol. And in this case especially, I’m choosing to believe he’s wrong because I don’t think this would be a good move for us.
Man if we get Robert I’m gonna be mad. You got to have Bellinger, Tucker or Duran patrolling the outfield with Soto and Benge.
Trusting Bob Nightengale is like asking a crackhead to watch your car, then giving him $50 and your keys.
Would much rather just sign Bader again
I only want Roberts if we’re giving away some lottery ticket prospects or Mauricio or Acuña. The guy has a high ceiling but has been terrible for 2 years straight.
Man they messed up not getting him last year
Pass
I seriously don’t get what the fascination is with this guy. He’s had 1.5 good years
Can’t wait to hear the Mets’d up guys stroke Robert for 20 mins tomorrow
Again
Hopefully we’re just kicking the tires to see if they’d swap a McNeil/senga contract for Robert.
Robert is a 85 OPS+, 1.4 WAR player at this point in his career. He’s a slightly better 4th outfielder than Taylor but he’s not a starter. If they are asking for any good prospects like they were at the deadline, we should be hanging up the phone immediately.
This is like when there were rumors about trading for Starling Marte about 5-6 years ago. At this point, we would be getting Robert a little too late.
Calling it now. Siri and Roberts will end up having identical 2026 seasons. Defensive CF that post a sub 100 OPS+.
One will cost $20 million and needs to be traded for. The other will cost $2 million at most.
I am willing to trade for Roberts, if he would not cost much. It would have to be a pitcher who is like 10th on the depth chart like a Tylor Megill. I would not trade anyone who is currently expected to be in the rotation.

Over the last two years:
.223/.288/.372 85 OPS+ 2.8 bWAR
.235/.289/.361 84 OPS+ 3.1 bWAR
