NHL Highlights | Sabres vs. Devils – December 21, 2025
And it’s nice to see Tim O Meer back. We’ll see him in a little bit as he’s on the ice and of course the return of Jack Hughes and our city grits. Buffalo wins the draw. We’re underway here >> again this season. Put a nice win streak together. They’ve got plenty of talent and they’re right in the mix as well. >> But first to get there is Mets. Puts it back in the corner. Centering pass trying to st it short side. Gloved out of the air by Allen. And the rebound taken by Mercer back to center. >> Chipping it in past defenseman and winning some races. >> Stolen away. Couple of moves by Teemire AND A SAVE. REBOUND. IT GOES OFF THE POST from Brad. So the Devils answer back but can’t crack the code yet of Lucan as it’s cleared back to center. >> Great opportunity right in front for Brack and Meyer as well. Teemo Meyer hunting for a goal. Wrist shot and another save by Lucan. Well, >> tuck cut off by White. Devils trying to clear. Power has it. Pinches. Sharp angle shot. Saved by Allen. Then he drives towards the net, but now he’s in the corner. Slings it back out to Brat. Can’t control it, but Connor can. And the shot goes over the net. Power outlets it out. The pass goes down. Centering pass blocked in front as Keserling couldn’t get it deep. But now the Devil’s possible threeon two. Here comes Heir looking for the deflection in front from Meyer, but it just misses. And now Buffalo will try to count it. >> Right idea by Nico Heir. Just missed Meer stick transition. He sure Meyer with a shot and a belly save by Lucin and he’ll hold on. >> Brown wins the face off. Palot to the blue line. Hamilton has some room. Shot save by Lucan and rebound. Finally Norris finds Tuck. Face off one by Buffalo. Power flips it back out. Gloved by White. Taps it to Mercer. Cross ice pass to Jack. Jack one-on-one Kessle ring. So he climbs back to the blue line. Finds some room. Shot. Score. Welcome back, Jack. IT’S ONE- NOTHING NEW JERSEY. First game back. Time now for a million dollar replay brought to you by the New Jersey Lottery. Remember, anything can happen in Jersey. And you see how Jack Hughes gets that puck right around the half wall, spins entry with possession, and then to create time and space. >> And then if he doesn’t have a shot, you know, he’s got an option to make a pass. Just >> a perfect example of Jack at his best. >> Benson Mloud back to Benson, but can’t get through the wall of sticks the Devils had down on the ice. And Mercer knocks it back out to center. Dens for Gritsuk. HERE COMES JACK GRITSUK. WHAT A SAVE BY LUCIN WITH THE GLOVE. >> WOW. >> Fake shot pass from Jack Hughes. Thinking the goalender has no chance of getting over >> as Dawson Mercer with the alleyoop. >> Jack Hughes skates under it. And the drop or shall I say Git skates under the drop pass to Hughes. And look at this glove save from Ukah Pekka Lucinan. >> White shot that more conventional glove save for Lucin, but it was all set up. White Meyer up the wall for Brat. Quickly back to Meyer. Meyer lost control. Reathers ends up on net. Steered aside by Lucanin. He sure brat back out to White on the backhand. Balances the blue line. Glove down by Brat. He wipes out. Oland leaves it for Norris. Norris to Tuck. Tuck. Distance shot. Stick assigned by Allen. Pass to Malenstein. angles away from Hamilton. Twoon one goes back out to the far wall with a shot and it goes through the crease and wide from Rosenik and a shot by Dunn goes off the side of the net. Dun >> stick just shattered. >> Well, Dano, I know you >> taken by Connor FINDS NATION AND ANOTHER TOE SAVE BY LUCIN. Time to backhand it back to Hughes. Luke Hughes outlets nice pass by Meyer to Hayir. H WITH A BACKHAND. Can’t get by the aggressive save of Lucan. It would be way out of his grace. >> Maybe shovel it. Five hole, but >> couldn’t quite find it. Nice little >> pass up to Meer. The one touch to heat. Sure. You see how he tries to right there gets the defenseman. >> Drives passes over to Brat. Quickly back to A BREAKING HUGHES. HUGHES CENTERING PASS AER. And another save by Lucan and goes back out. This goes through Brat and down. And now a twoon-one opens up here. HERE’S TUCK SHORT-HANDED WITH A SHOT and a paddle save by Allen. >> Not the way you wanted the period to end. >> They certainly use Jack back here. Almost a minute and 50 seconds to start the second period on the power play. Devils hockey is brought to you by RWJ Barnabas Health, the official healthcare provider of the New Jersey Devils. Zack out to the point. HERE’S HAMILTON WITH A SHOT. DEFLECTED WIDE. Bouncing puck. Goes back behind the net. MERCER. SHOT SAVED by Lucin. Off the drive from Brown, it’s off the end boards trying to get it around Thompson. Centering pass to Krebs, but he didn’t get his stick down on it to take a shot. Delene gathers, FINDS DON WITH A SHOT and a glove save by Allen. >> He’s looking at the replay himself. Frustrated. That was a big save from Jake Allen. >> Delene sharp ANGLE SAVED BY ALLEN. REBOUND. THEY SCORE. They stuck with it on the shot and we’re now tied at one. Looks like Josh Norris on the doorstep. >> I think he just stays with us. Norris is really good around the net. There’s all kinds of bodies. Jake Allen has that puck for a split second, but Norris finds it. Watch the stick work in front here. Able to find that puck. Did he pull it a little bit? Great overhead angle. >> Look at Norris. He kind of just dates it. You weren’t moving him. Alex Pon Karovski. >> How did you do? Post your own questions. The hashtag Cadillac trivia on X. HERE’S TUCK WITH A SHOT AND A SAVE BY ALLEN. >> Goes off a glasses skate. Delen to his forehand off the dasher board and it’s picked off by Brown. BROWN WITH A TOW DRAG. BROWN WITH A SHOT AND A SAVE BY LUCAN. Power back behind the net. Gets it back up to the slot. Kessle Ring with some room between the circles. Shot save. rebound kick back behind the net and played by Hamilton off the dasher board to Seanthaler. Seanthaler creeps up, brings it in the zone, slings a shot that’s waffle board away by Lucatan to corral the puck and get it off of Dunn. Dunn can’t reach. Malenstein’s going to climb to the blue line, sling a shot that’s gloved out of the air by Allen and he’ll hold on again and Hughes back tonight and they’re in a 1-1 struggle here with the Savers. Kreps with an angle. A shot and a save by Allen. >> He had broken his stick. Looked like Savers were going to have numbers in trouble in the Devil’s own. >> A couple points. >> Benson. Benson with a shot and they score. >> He had a chance to pass instead decided to get the goal himself and make it a two-1 game. >> A twoon one. I think the Devils get caught in a change a little bit. You know, Buffalo gets to the puck quickly in the neutral zone and Benson. Oh, sneaky little shot. He kind of sells past, sells past and just whips a low one. It gets just inside the post, I think. >> Sweep it five hole. >> Centers it up top for Seanthaler. He slings a shot save rebound. Heir right in the crease and it’s poked just wide by Meyer. I think Meyer was trying a backhand pass between >> Well, I would think between periods, players, coaches, everybody came together and said, “Guys, we’re right here. Not our best period, but you know, let’s be on high alert in the third. We’ve got to get something.” Big clutch goal here in the third to tie it up. >> Off the draw back to back icings. Too early in the period for it to AFFECT THE SABRES. CENTERING PASS. IT WON’T GO. THE SECOND ONE HOPS OVER THE NET. blue line where the Devils in this line create a turnover. Stay with it and eventually get a a shot. Here’s that opportunity a couple of shifts ago right there. Pull out right on the goal line overhead. Look, look how close this comes. I don’t know how that first one didn’t go in >> and then Jack intercepted it right in front of Jake Allen. >> MEER HERE’S BRAT. SAVED BY LUCIN. OH, WHAT a chance intended for Buffalo’s Paige Thompson. Then Nicoisha finds Brad in >> trying to tie this game up. Got slashed a little bit from Power. Delene off the half boards and here comes Buffalo. Krebs plays it off the wall. Gets his own pass and saved by Allen and kicks back out to Jack >> right to Brad too. You couldn’t get it over the glove. >> Hughes around Thompson. Hugh sharp angle tried to lift it. Doesn’t go. BOUNCING PUCK BACK BEHIND the net. Thompson pitchforks it all the way down TO THE EMPTY NET. It’s wide. RACING FOR THE PUCK IS CRAMPED WITH THE EMPTY NET AND scores and the Sabres take the twogoal lead with two minutes left. >> You know Devils are pressing in the offensive zone so it’s hard to win this foot race as that puck is uh really initially was trying to hit the empty net. I think it was tucked there, but >> bounces perfectly for Krebs. Yeah, that’s a tough >> really giving the Devils a big advantage. >> One last opportunity. Grits hook knocked down in front and that’ll do it. So, started out with a lot of excitement with Jack Hughes returning and he scored a goal to give the Devils the one to nothing lead.
Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 24 saves on the night, Zach Benson scored the eventual game-winner, and the Buffalo Sabres took care of the New Jersey Devils 3-1.

A six game winning streak for the Buffalo Sabres, am I dreaming?
Luuuuuuuuuk and company are on one heck of a roll. Have to admit with Luuuuuk in Goal, I thought the streak ended tonight….my apologies Luuuuuuk! This time, I am actually buying in to how well this team is playing. Norris has been awesome, and this team truly looks like it has found its identity. So proud of these guys. Let's Go Buffalo! βββββββ
Sabres are a wagon?
Good game from upl. Definitely better than his last appearance. Nice to see buffalo get a little luck on their side to come out with the win
Buffalo is a good franchise! 6 Ws in a row. ππ
Gg, Sabres π€. And congrats on 6 in a row.
Go Sabres!!!
Go on ya beauties! Great to see the Sabres have some joy in yet another win!
That lyon x luuk tandem has been considerably better than any tandems of recent previous seasons for buf
KekΓ€lΓ€inen must have had one heck of an introductory speech for the Sabres…
The Lord π is HIGHER than the Devil… Squire Benson, Lord Norris… Another victory for their fallen father (KA) π π π― βοΈ
Nice no-look goal from Benson
Seeing this broadcast for the Devils and their alternates makes me wonder why Buffalo, who is also on MSG, don't have the Goathead on the on-screen scoreboard when they wear their alternates for MSG games… It just stays as the Blue and Gold swords when they're wearing the Goats… weird… or lazy on MSG's part? I dunno. Just found that odd.
Luuk made huge saves ….that gave them a chance to win.
Make it seven!
Jarmo the Finnish Messiah!
Imagine winning 6 games in a row and still being 2nd last in your division. What a scuffed league lol
Goaltending keeps the Sabres in it from start to finish. If we could only develop some defense we could contend! I will take the W 6 streak, any day. Go Sabres.

Rick Jeanerette must be turning in his grave listening to these two announcers from the same network. Its fine to be a homer but jesus can you sound a little less enthusiastic when opponent scores?!? even worst case RJ, and most good play by play guys will get excited for op goals, if a little less…
The sabres are working harder.

Ruff great coach
The boys are COOKIN now!
No excuses now, Devils are struggling as a team. 1 goal is wild.
Nice to see UPL getting in the action to join in the 6 game winning streak. Keep it up, beating a team above us.
Go π¦¬!
6 game winning streak? 6 in a row! π₯ΉππβοΈ
