Brunson 47-Point Night Fuels Knicks Bounce Back Win Over Heat | New York Knicks

Next postgame show is presented by Tri-State Audi. Visit your tri-state [music] area Audi dealer today against the Miami Heat tonight. Jaylen Brunson 47 points. That’s the [music] most points he’s ever scored at MSG. He made six threes. OG Anovi missed that [music] one. He scored all 18 of his points in the second half. It comes to Brunson who hits another three. As a team, the Knicks go 20 of 38 from downtown and they bounce back after [music] losing to Philly on Friday by beating Miami 132 to 125. Great to have you with us here, Bill Pedo, along with Wally Zerak. So, all of the chatter about pregame, the fatigue, the tough schedule, they had enough juice to pull it out. And the Knicks have not lost back-to-back games, Wall-E, since late October. >> Well, first of all, are you not entertained? I mean, this is a Sunday funday to remember. Both ways. >> Both ways. Jaylen Brunson with a careerhigh. I mean, the garden was on fire. I mean that’s what that’s outstanding basketball on both ends of the floor. The shotmaking I mean I am mesmerized by how Khil Wear can shoot the three like that at that size. Plus he got 19 18 rebounds whatever he got. Jaylen Brunson making shots falling out of bounds into the Miami Heat bench. Muel Bridges an absolute laser a flamethrower. Six for seven from the three-point line. Knicks make 20 threes. Just an incredible win by this team. They rise to the occasion. whatever they need to do to get it done, they get it done. That was just a fun basketball game. I mean, it just doesn’t get any better. And anyone that says NBA basketball, no one plays defense, you can’t guard that. You can’t guard that type of skill when you’re right in front of a guy and literally Josh Hart hits a shot from 25 ft at the end of the shot clock with a guy hanging all over. I mean, that’s just excellent execution and skill level. >> So, Miami from three goes 17 to 35. I mentioned the Knicks 20 at 38. Amazing. and clear wear looked like Victor Wambyama out there. So, back and forth and the Knicks able to pull it out down the stretch. It got very close late. Knicks had enough to win it by seven. >> And this is a Miami Heat team that’s now 1 and seven in their last eight games. So, they were fighting to the finish. That does not look like a 1 and 17. There’s Tyler Kick again getting big trusting minutes in the fourth quarter. MueL Bridges huge shot. The ball movement exceptional by the Knicks. The way they were finding the open man. They were bringing the double team on Jaylen Brunson. And this one, I don’t know if you draw that one up, Mike Brown, but you’ll take it. [cheering] What a big shot right there by Josh Hart. Just nails a huge three. And Norman Powell, he’s been playing outstanding basketball. Lays it up there to Khil Wear who with Mitchell Robinson out there, you don’t see many guys that make Mitchell Robinson look small. And that’s what Khil Wear does. But look at the hustle. Mitch with the wherewithal to get it over to Brunson. That’s the one I was talking about. fading out of bounds, knocks down that three. Just a huge shot. And Miami wouldn’t go away. They just kept kept coming after him. That cut it to like they cut it to two at one point in that fourth quarter. And then the Knicks just kept making shots. The ball movement there. Mapel Bridges, even if you’re close to him, he’s got such a high release with those long arms that it doesn’t affect his concentration. Just an outstanding performance and a huge win for the Knicks to get to 20 on the year already. 20 and eight. So look, Wally, the Knicks outscored by eight points from the free throw line. They’re able to prevail. They outscore the Heat by a total of three made threes. Look at the rebounding. Rare to see the Knicks outboarded [music] by nine and they still were able to win the game. Points in the paint, dead even at 46 apiece. Here now with Male Bridges. Male, thanks so much for dropping by. You guys uh had a 10-point lead. Final stages of the game cut to two. How’d you end up prevailing down the stretch? >> Um things getting stops. You know, I think get stops and then, you know, get a ball to JB and that’ll work is magic. So, just get stops and getting out and then let JB go to work. So, first half you go for 18 points, you get 10 shots. You don’t get a single shot off in the third quarter and then down the stretch you hit two key threes. How are you able to stay in rhythm when you go so long without getting a shot off? >> Um, I don’t know, man. I just I just, you know, just keep playing the right way, you know. I had a couple touches in the third. I think I had a couple assists, but just, you know, just trying [snorts] to make the right play every time. You know, catch a shoot I’m open and drive. You know, I’m not trying to force it. I’m trying to just, you know, if I’m open, I shoot. If not, try to look out for my teammates. >> How about this run for you? Three straight games with at least 20 points scored. >> Uh, it was nice, man. It’s nice to see the ball go in the hoop. >> All right, male. Thanks so much for dropping by and congrats. >> Thank you, man. Thank you, >> Wally Bridges. The things that stands out to me is his efficiency. >> Yeah. >> Took only 14 shots today. >> It’s incredible. And that’s that’s cuz he he just lets the game come to him. You know, obviously he’s a very efficient shooter and he takes good shots. He’s never forcing. That’s what I love about his game. Uh you know, he has the ability to create a lot of mid-range opportunities for himself, but the catch and shoot this year compared to last year, it’s just on fire. I mean, the rhythm, the way he’s shooting the ball is pretty to watch. I mean, he just The Knicks are never out of a game. If they’re down 10 a couple games ago against Pacers, couple threes get you right back in the game. Then you feel life when you looks like the team doesn’t have much to get back into the game. And then today in that fourth quarter, he hit some big shots when Miami was really making a push to try to steal this victory. >> All right. Well, we want to bring in Monica McNut helped call the game as always on the radio on ESPN New York. You know, the Knicks are able to prevail, score 132 points, and cat in this game. took only five shots, played really, really good defense down the stretch, but Monica took only five shots, scored only two points, and the Knicks prevail anyway. >> I think one of the things that I’m enjoying about this team, you guys, is there are a number of ways that it can get done. Now, on a night when Jaylen Brunson has 47, it should absolutely go into the W column, but I think I like that guys are not pressing. You called out Capito. I’m watching uh Ojanobi who had only taken two shots by halftime, and ultimately he finishes with a solid game of 18 points and six of 12 from the field. There’s no real press. I think at least here in the Garden, there isn’t. And I think that’s healthy because these guys trust one another that the ball will come to them, that they will have their opportunities. >> Another thing I’m enjoying is that hat, Monica. It looks awesome. You definitely has lights, Wally, but you can’t really see them. >> It looks better on you than it looked on Allen in the pregame. Let’s just clear that up. [laughter] >> Oh, I’m enjoying a lot about this next team, Monica. They’re just moving the ball, playing outstanding basketball. It was a concern about their fatigue level a little bit, but I think Monica, I think Jaylen Brunson answers answered the question. I don’t think he’s got any fatigue. >> Yeah. No, he looked great. And and you think about how he goes about getting his baskets too, Wally. In addition to that, like this is a guy who has to go into the plate. He has to compete against bigger defenders, faster defenders, whatever you want to whatever adjective you want to give to a defender. And he still finds a way to play off of two feet and through contact. And you know, fatigue, it will snatch your legs from you quickly. But to hit six threes, that’s a level of energy that is undeniable. So, I just think even if you and I as as members of the media or fans wanted to call out the schedule and I’m not saying that that’s not something worth discussing. We asked Tyler K this as well. You got to be a professional and I’m sure that Jaylen Brunson aligns with that mindset as well. >> Monica, how about Khloe? We got to give props to the opponent there. Guy’s seven feet, hit five threes, >> 20 rebounds. >> Absolutely. You know, it’s going to be interesting going forward for these two teams. Him against Mitch, that’s a heck of a matchup. He does a pretty good job neutralizing Mitch. >> So, Pito, I I’m glad you said that. I’m I am disappointed that this is the end of this series for the season for a number of personal reasons, including liking to go to Miami in January and February, but also because of that, right? Like Mitchell Robinson, this version of Mitchell Robbins that has that has emerged over the last five games or so, that’s in better shape, that is not playing in his shift minutes, that is sprinting down the floor with bigs that are a little bit more mobile, that is catching the ball cleanly, that is making free throws. I want to see the best Mitchell Robinson versus who Kel Wear may be evolving to be in this league. That’s a matchup that really does intrigue me. Fortunately though, the Knicks win this game tonight. And should these teams see each other in the postseason, maybe we’ll get that match up then and the Knicks will have the seating advantage? They should, right? Or is it just a tie? >> It’s 2-2 now. So, it’s all going to come down to Eastern. >> Well, the Knicks have a better record. They will of course. >> Yeah, of course. Definitely. >> OG Anobi Monica, very interesting. two points the other night against Philly for the whole game. Doesn’t score at all in the first half tonight and yet is able to keep at it, do all the things that he does except score and then end up with 18 points in the second half. It’s amazing how he keeps his focus and then ends up getting the points. >> This is all of these things are the signs of this team growing both as a unit and individually. I thought OG Anobi, here’s the thing, Peter, he didn’t have no points in the first half having taken like 10 shots and was having a terrible night. He’d only taken two shots, but again, you could feel that there was a level of trust that his opportunities were going to come and there was no need to force it. He started the ball game or started the third quarter off with some energy. He got his first two shots to go and then it was all she wrote after that. As you can see, the variety of ways in which he has the ability to score. And of course, making sure that he’s looking to get his energy on the defensive side of the basketball. How many steals did he get credit for tonight? just one steal, but again, a number of defensive plays that make you say, “Wow, that dude really is legit on that side of the basketball.” >> Yeah. And one thing about his defense, Monica, he never really relaxes even when he’s not getting shots in the first half. He was competitive locking up Bam out of bio. I thought that was a really good matchup. The way he neutralized him, made Bam Adabio work. And Haime Hawz, too. Haime Hawz, he’s going to play physical. And if you don’t have an OG Anobi, you’re going to have trouble trying to stop a guy like that because he’s a wrecking machine. and OG was a great matchup for him, too. All right, Monica, merry Christmas, my friend. >> Merry Christmas, y’all. I’ll see y’all after the holiday.

Knicks Captain Jalen Brunson 47-point performance was a career high for him at The Garden in the 132-125 win over the Heat. With the bounce back win the Knicks have not lost 2 consecutive games since Halloween. The Knicks are on the road to take on the Timberwolves on Tuesday, Dec 23rd.

  1. Knicks need more help from the bench especially when guys are hurt they need to make trades to get more help from the bench and rest your starters otherwise they will run out of gas especially at the end of the season
