The funny thing is he took this core the further it’s ever gone in the playoffs. Not his fault, we have nothing but manchilds as leaders here.
And everyone’s gonna continue to say it’s the coaching staff and not the same dudes that have been here for nine years lmao

I agree about the players but I honestly also don’t think Berube is a very good coach by nhl standards, even though of course yes his team won a cup. I don’t like what he seems to want them to do tactically. Even last year they got badly outplayed at evens a lot and rode hot goaltending. He should go but he’s also not the underlying problem.
Matthews is uncoachable. So is Nylander. Not so with Tavares.
I do blame him. This team has firmly been in the drivers seat of maybe a handful of games in the past season and a half. He’s not getting Vezina goaltending and generational fortune with one-goal games anymore.
Where I’ll cut him some slack is that most of the roster changes around him haven’t helped as the team brings in players who look the part of a heavy forechecking team, but aren’t actually able to execute it, but really this just means two guys who need to go rather than one
I don’t want 34 on team USA. Have him stay back and practice maybe. LOL

This narrative is tired and ridiculous.
I don’t think he helped though and I do partially blame him for not adjusting to the style of the team. We have a lot of talent in our team and it’s the coach’s job to bring out the best in that. Our captain sure doesn’t care but I wouldn’t say that most of our team doesn’t care. And I absolutely blame him for his poor goaltender decisions. He played Stolarz, then Woll to the point of injury before even giving Hildeby a fair chance even though history has shown that they can’t be overworked like that. It’s very stubborn of him to keep trying the same thing until it breaks rather than adjusting.
new jersey hasn’t been good lately either tbh. i still think keefe was a better coach than berube tho

I definitely would not fire the coach. It lets the players off the hook. It also lets the GM off the hook and imo he is the one too blame but a close second are the players who either cannot stay healthy or are not performing. The coach can only coach the guys he has.
no coach will make this team better, they are flawed. They have a bad defence. Their goalies cannot stay healthy I mean going with two injury prone guys is insane imo. It means you need a third goalie and while Hildeby tries hard he is not yet an NHL guy.
The trades Tre made last year was all or nothing. And he did that knowing he might lose Marner… that was insane. For what Laughton (who I do respect) and Carlo (who is probably playing if he was on another team).
Then you have the Leaf Karma which is just bad and I think its from the corporate shills that make up its lower bowl. That feeling from these people .. its awful, they are not fans. Then you have crazy fans throwing jerseys, threatening players.
Its a gong show but its not Berube and if he is fired its the laziest lamest thing Treliving could do.
