You will get a rehab project who bats 2.15 and you will thank our Gambling OverLord Cohen
I genuinely don’t know who the solution is at 1b. Are we honestly going to have Vientos there? Even 2024 Vientos would be a downgrade from Alonso, so what is the plan?
Okamoto or bust at this rate for 1st base lol 😅😅😅
I was doubtful they would go after him once they signed Polanco, who hit lefties very well last season. I think the priority is adding an outfielder. At 1B/DH they’ll go with Polanco + someone they already have (Vientos/McNeil/maybe Clifford later?).
We just need to accept the fact that Cohen sold us a bill of goods. He got his casinos, so from his perspective, the Mets have served their purpose. 2024 was the ceiling, and we have a LONG way down.
Run prevention was the reason they let Alonso walk. Contreras was supposed to be the replacement. You can’t prospect hug at this juncture.
i hate run prevention
The Polanco signing made this redundant (in theory), but I really think this would have been a better fit. Annoying.
Well this is good news. Prevents the front office from doing something stupid
Second trade between Boston and St Louis this offseason. Makes sense with Chaim Bloom running the Cardinals now.
If the Mets are looking for another 1B, feels like O’Hearn and Okamoto are the best two options left.
Contreras would have been nice, but I think there’s more of a desperation in HOU with Christian Walker than there was in STL with Willson Contreras.
HOU has an infield logjam after re-acquiring Carlos Correa. They need to move someone. I would call them asking for Walker (2 years/$20m), and send a bad contract back HOU’s way.
Okamoto at first and Bellinger in left
God damnit the package was so fucking manageable too. What are we doing boys.
You don’t build dynasties by just trying to acquire everyone in a single free agent class.
What’s the Mets prospect equivalent of the Sox prospects?
Contreras Trade comp for the Mets would be
– Christian Scott
– Will Watson (going to be around #90 on BPs new list)
– Zach Thornton
Was this ever happening for the Mets? 33 year old doesn’t really seem to fit their tastes at this point. I guess maybe if it was somebody else.
Thank god. Wanted no part of him.
We’re done. This guy Stearns is not signing or trading for anyone. He is playing the rookies. Face facts
Cue people on here to suddenly say Contreras isn’t actually that good in 3…2…1…
Mets fans want to both keep their prospects, keep the core, change the culture, and sign every single name and trade for everyone as well 😂
Ok.
It’s really cute that a good chunk of people on this board are waiting for the perfect move and scoffing at every piece that gets taken off the board.
Don’t expect anything further. Team is set for 26. The yout of queens is coming for better or worse.
Concepts of a plan
idk why but i read this as congrats to the red sox
Seems like Bloom was going to charge the Mets a premium since he had an offer in hand from the Red Sox whose farm system he had a really deep knowledge of.
I think Contreras would’ve been a nice fit for the “guys with value who we won’t have to pay in 3 years” system Stearns is trying to build but not for the prospect cost of Scott and Thornton.
We move on. There are plenty of fits in free agency remaining (O’Hearn/Goldschmidt) or trade (Yandy Diaz, Isaac paredes) that can fill the void.
