Not sure if Murakami will translate well to the MLB, but given who he signed with, have to think the Pirates could’ve signed him. $17 million a year for 2 years would’ve been in their price range. He plays 1B & 3B, which would've fit the team well.
I’ve been waiting for this one..
"One more"… so they'll have… 2? 3?
😶
I wonder how Burrows fared against the Astros divisional opponents?
Cutch is 100% done and simply can't produce as even a league average DH. Time to stop it and wake up
I wouldnt want this to be the big "proven bat" but id love a floor-raising Starling Marte type on LF. Paired with a real 3b and/or dh.
Theres def room for a lefty dh and cutch esp if that lefty could chip in in the field. A beefy righty dh-only type like marcell ozuna would close the door on cutch. Lets see.
This wouldnt be a big proven bat but 3b yoan moncada is probably better when healthy than you think. The "when healthy" is why hed be cheap. Could still prob afford a real DH after that
The Corey Dickerson trade was pretty similar to this and was pretty good for PIT. Proven hitter with little years remaining comes to pit.
Given the terms, on all the players, mangum and montgomery will probably tell the ultimate long term story of the deal more than lowe will
This trade doesn't make sense if they don't add more. Its a good trade but not enough to get into contention
Suarez or Ozuna would be my choice.
Nice to see a legit MLB hitter acquired, keep working the phones!
This was not a good trade. They've given away all of the career of Mike Burrows for a fifth outfielder, a reliever who has trouble finding the strike zone, and one year of a second baseman who can hit and miss time with injuries, but not play the field. They have weakened themselves in second base defense and in the rotation for maybe one season of a guy who can hit. That's a bad trade. It would make more sense they intended to use Lowe at DH, but it still wouldn't be good.
Suarez will not put up big numbers at PNC, Bregman isn't coming to Pittsburgh. Sign O'Hearn and Andujar to be DH's and outfield and 1st base backups. If trading for another outfielder can put Reynolds as the DH. I'd give Triolo the 3rd base job and see if he can duplicate last years last couple of months he had. You know your getting gold glove caliber defense with him at 3rd
So when you are saying it's one year of Lowe for 5 years of Burrows… you are ignoring Mangum and Montgomery entirely? I could see Montgomery turning into a valuable bullpen arm with team control and Mangum seems to have value as a 4th outfielder.
Isn’t there a 3rd baseman in Korea available
Bringing Starling Marte back as a bench piece and 4th outfielder would be Good. If Endy is over his elbow issue and can get back to hitting like he can, and I suspect he will, he can platoon at 1B with Horwitz. Suarez likely wants 3 years, and at his age is a big gamble, then look for another 3B in trade. While Okomoto is enticing, this team needs a proven major league bat at the hot corner.
Great trade!
