MORITZ SEIDER: SUPERSTAR – Winged Wheel Podcast – Dec. 21st, 2025

It’s Moritz Seider’s world, we’re just living in it.

Tune in as we start by recapping the first of Detroit’s two wins over Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals, including goals and strong play from John Leonard, James van Riemsdyk, Elmer Soderblom, Moritz Seider, Dylan Larkin, Simon Edvinsson, and Andrew Copp, John Gibson’s 7th straight win, and more from Todd McLellan’s squad. Next, the Red Wings going back-to-back thanks to another goal from Leonard (filling in for Patrick Kane alongside Alex DeBrincat and Andrew Copp), Lucas Raymond (from Sandin-Pellikka and Finnie), Cam Talbot’s strong game, and Moritz Seider’s absolutely electric overtime game winner at Little Caesars Arena. We then take a look at Detroit’s standings in the Atlantic division and the road ahead for Steve Yzerman’s team.

After that, we dive into the numbers behind Moritz Seider’s superstar-level season, how he’s surpassed even Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar in some metrics, how Simon Edvinsson has helped free up his game, and his candidacy for the Norris and Hart Trophies.

We then discuss Marco Kasper’s sophomore slump, as well as the Grand Rapids Griffins’ AHL record-setting start the season (with Cossa, Brandsegg-Nygard, Holl, Gustafsson, and others leading the way under Dan Watson) before jumping into NHL news (Berggren in St. Louis, Marchand, Danault and Marchment trades, & more).

All of that & lots more before we take your questions and comments in our Overtime segment – enjoy!

  1. I really want to be over the moon with how theyve been playing, but im gunshy about if its sustainable, and if not, who we can trade for to make it sustainable

  2. correct me if i’m wrong but Leonard isn’t on an ELC and doesn’t have a NMC, and no way we waive him to send him back down… so who are we sending down? obvious answer is rasmussen but for some reason this org won’t let him go

  3. "Cat Copp Leonard Hot"

How is a line being tied 2-2 through 4 games hot? And they just lost 1-2 in the last game.

For comparison, the Kane version of that line – I don't recall ever getting a "Copp Cat Kane Hot" headline on a thumbnail – won 12-0 in its last 7 games (out of 8) together prior to Kane's reinjury. Literally the most effective line in the entire NHL.

  4. Leonard needs to stay in Detroit, he's one of the more defensively responsible forwards that can produce and it shows. Also nobody is going to help another division or conference rival/competitor in trade. If you wanna shop players it needs to be from the west and you need to have continued success to show them you're serious about being competitive this year and the years to come.

  5. Boy it's fun to be a Red Wings fan atm; Detroit is top 5 in the leauge now but to keep it going we have to fix that 3rd pair (atleast ASP seem to have fixed our 2nd pair who been our biggest weakness since Hronek got traded, which ironically was against the pick that we choose to draft Sandin-Pelikka with!) since i see Albert Johansson having a "sophmore slump season" of his own (simular to Kasper, but in this instance his defensive play) after his really solid rookie season (where Edvinsson was basically his safety net, getting put on the 3rd pair he is actually being "exposed" more then he was on the 2nd pair, since he now is told to carry a pair on his own)

Grand Rapids on the other hand is having an historically great start to the season and everything seems to click for guys down there So a guy i would like to see (who Johansson played with a lot after Edvinsson got promoted) is Tuomisto (6'5, 220 lbs right handed dman) get a shot on that 3rd pair spot before the season is over. He was actually the 2nd draft pick Yzerman ever selected here (after Seider, early 2nd round back in 2019) and he NEEDS a look to see what we have (also he is having a breakout year in GR being on pace for 15 goals, ~50 points, seems to skate better aswell from games i"ve seen this season (about half of them) which has always been his knock) before the season is over because he is turning 25 (in less then a month from now) and actually become a UFA after the season…

If Albert (team worst -15) don't turn things around soon i would not mind seing William Wallinder (who i actually think have higher upside then either of Johansson or Tuomisto) instead of him since WW is also on his last year of his ELC and you have to make a decision on after this season is over… It's just the diffrence between UFA/RFA that makes me say Tuomisto should get a look first (also to get Hamonic or JBD off the lineup which would be guys he would replace as a RHD) #LGRW

  6. By percentage, a 5k fine for someone making 5m a year is the equivalent of $100 fine for someone making 100k a year. That's nothing lol. Make the fines $20k and you'll see the rediculous nut taps go away.

  7. Can you guys address the OTL issue? It's a shame teams like Vegas are even in the discussion with so many OTL points. There has to be another system.

Oh, and we appear very legit now. This could be fun.

  8. Last week, while doom scrolling TikTok, some random sports guy was calling out for Seider to do more. I wish it was rage bait, but the guy had two Red Wings videos with equally bad takes. His videos convinced me some people don't understand how to properly watch a hockey game or how the nuance that goes into the stat cards.

  9. I would like to see a tight played game against Dallas close man to man we give to much space for shooters and block our own goalie clear the crease don't let them pitch a tent ⛺ and camp🏕️ there.

  10. The overtime segment about Edmonton was hilarious. Ken holland did the same thing to Edmonton that he did us.
Much like the wet bandits in home alone 😅 he has a signature calling…"the bad contract and empty prospect cupboard bandit". any LA kings fan with common sense is in full panic mode
