Munetaka Murakami brought a White Sox sock with him to his introductory press conference: “White Sox nation, you guys are in my heart.”

  1. Thank god he didn’t sign with Minnesota

*shoutout to the one dude in the comments that got that this is a reference to that Vikings fan and eating his cum sock

  2. Let’s go. I know the issues with the fastball are legit, but similar issues existed for Ohtani before he came to the league. Ohtani made some mechanical tweaks early on in his time with the Angels after watching how Pujols took swings in batting practice. Hopefully Murakami can make some similar adjustments because the potential is clearly there.

If the transition goes well this could either mean the Sox can cash in on moving a star level player for a high end return in the next year or so, or if they can put together a competitive team maybe he decides to commit long term to the team. Either way it would be huge for the club.

If things don’t pan out, its a short enough deal that really shouldn’t hurt the club much big picture. I see the signing as a low risk high upside move that hopefully signals the start of a new era for the team.

  3. In an alternative universe, he signs with the Tigers, leading to an absolutely terrifying press conference.

  4. Every time I’m in Japan I’m floored with how many White Sox hats I see. Obviously it’s a fashion thing, but this will certainly serve to only increase that population.

  5. I love these Japanese player press conferences, will never forget “hello! My name is masataka yoshida, nice to meet you!”

  6. For those not familiar with Japanese culture.. waving a Sock 🧦 symbolizes Kommumoto, roughly means, ‘May the royal twin tiger guardians feel my kick’ .. it’s amazingly specific.

  7. It seems like the Japanese dudes that come over all have fantastic cheeky senses of humor

  8. The part of me that despises the White Sox wants him to crash and burn, but darnit he’s just so likable.

  9. He should have signed with the blue jays and brought a little toy blue jay. Maybe it would flap its wings automatically if you wind it up. I’d love to hear that chronicle.
