Munetaka Murakami Introductory Press Conference as a Chicago White Sox (12.22.25)

Chicago White Sox executive vice president/general manager Chris Getz, and infielder Munetaka Murakami address the media at Rate Field.

Munetaka Murakami, a two-time Nippon Professional Baseball Japanese Central League Most Valuable Player, has spent the last eight seasons with the Tokyo Yakult Swallows, batting .270/.394/.557 (843-3,117) with 146 doubles, 246 home runs, 647 RBI, 535 runs scored and 614 walks in 892 games. During that span, he leads the NPB in homers, RBI, walks, slugging percentage and OPS (.979). Murakami has appeared in 696 games at third base, 263 at first and one in right field.

  26. Fantastic signing. I wasn't sure if Chicago was a possibility. I thought for a moment maybe the bigger clubs like the Dodgers, Mets, and the Yankees would be in the market. Mune's agent hinted he preferred a West Coast team, but I'm happy I was wrong, and Murakami is a White Sox.

  28. 2 years go by so fast. I hope Murakami san proves the doubters wrong. During the signing process there were a lot of misinformation about his ability to hit a 93+ mph fastball, I know Mune can hit any velocity. I wish Mune all the success in the world, I understand his beloved Yakult Swallows supporters will follow his journey in America.
