The Giants radio analyst — a franchise great — called out cornerback Deonte Banks (no relation) on the “Bleav in Giants” podcast.
The elder Banks stirred up a controversy earlier this season by criticizing Dexter Lawrence, but there aren’t going to be nearly as many teammates jumping to Deonte Banks’ defense after more questionable effort tackling and allowing a couple of third-and-long conversions.
“If you were to stand on that field and watch pregame warmups and you had never seen Deonte Banks a day in your life, you’d be like, ‘This guy is a motherf–ker,’” Carl Banks said. “He’s big, he’s strong, he moves well. Lights come on and he just plays whatever the f–k he wants to do.”
Deonte Banks, a first-round pick in 2023 who has not lived up to the billing, was lined up opposite Vikings star receiver Justin Jefferson on a third-and-17 that became a 21-yard gain on Minnesota’s game-winning drive during the Giants’ 16-13 home loss on Sunday.
The corner, 24, also got beat badly by Vikings running back Aaron Jones on a rush from Minnesota’s 13-yard line early in the third quarter, easily running by him for a first down.

He isn’t wrong, 9.99 RAS score, just not a good football player.
This will only be a successful off-season if management gets rid of banks and hyatt
Yup more loafing yesterday
Carl has some of the most fun tape to watch back from the 80s. Absolute monster around the goal line, and dominant against the run. People look at his sack totals as a way to diminish his career but he was a complete player. He deserves to be in the hall
the banks situation has just been a top to bottom failure and allowing this guy a spot on the roster after all of his fuckery in game film, not just to date, but ending last season would of been enough to jettison him off the team – and i say this with deep convinction because its one thing for a player to not be fast, not be stronger, not have the ability or mental to make the play.
this mf would straight up make business decisions every single time i watched him. it was insane to see how much ego this kid carries. maybe he’ll be better on his next team, but whos gonna give this guy a shot when his #1 trait has been his inability to not make a play at the expense of himself, his body, or his image. what a terrible choice, and he needs off the team now (imo) if you want to restore any accountability in that locker room. he’s one of the biggest issues on the team for me, and has been for multiple seasons. he’s like if george pickens was a DB, but not even half as good.
Banks takes horrible angles in run support and always gives the runner the sideline.
As the corner, Banks is outside contain!! Always cuts inside and provides huge sideline run lanes.
Deonte Banks is truly the Jalin Hyatt of cornerbacks.
Just have to hope the next coaching group can salvage something from the raw talent. That’s the only justification for keeping him / not bailing now for a day three pick
Some guys have all the talent to succeed and none of the desire. That sums up Banks. He’ll have one last opportunity with this team to prove something but in all reality this year probably sealed his fate. I don’t see how you pick up his 5th year option and unless he suddenly changes everything about his play he’ll get buried on the depth chart next year. He brings some juice as a returner, so another team will extend him an offer for a one-year deal in 2027 but I wouldn’t be shocked if he’s out of the league in 2 years.
Remember how hype joe schoen was when he drafted him
He’s a pretty good kick returner, that’s actually a reason for him to stay on the team.
It’s interesting that Carl Banks came out and said they have 2-13 talent today. Also he’s so arrogant. Both him and Papa.
Not so fun fact: Carl Banks is the last LB we drafted in the first round.

Got me good lol
This one is so confounding. I never watched Maryland (for a reason) and so never had any view on him before the draft.
However, he apparently competed hard vs MHJ and had a ridiculous combine with 4.35 40Y, 1.49 10YS, 42 vertical, and very very smooth lower body – at 6’0″ and 200 lbs. Physically, he’s basically lab grown for a prototypical #1 corner in the NFL.
His failure to amount to ANYTHING – even an avg corner – is entirely on him. It’s also entirely on him that he quit on his team time and time again. And, what’s funny is despite that it sucks as a fan to watch him bust, it’ll hurt his bank account more. decent corners today get paiddd
He should be charged admission as a spectator
At least he’s better than Deandre Baker 😬
I’m so depressed thinking about the sports team I love the most
Wuts even worse is schoen traded up for him!! Wtaf
Gotta love a guy from Flint who will tell ya how it really is
Carl Banks is 100% right but I gotta wonder is it the coaching?
Banks is physically gifted, had a solid rookie campaign under Wink followed by 1.5 years of Shane Bowen and just overall disfunction.
I guess we’ll find out what the next DC thinks of him fairly soon.
Good
