Just two days from Christmas, today’s the last day MLB execs can make moves without infringing on their own (and our) holidays. It’s likely to be a slow week in what’s felt like a slow offseason, though I think this makes it a good time to reflect on what’s actually happened. Even if things seem like they’re moving glacially, more than half of MLB Trade Rumors Top 50 free agents have signed, with 14 of the top 25 having put pen to paper, lest you think that figure is propped up a bunch of by low-end free agents. And even in Yankee universe, where we’re all going a little stir crazy waiting for New York to make a big splash, things have moved along at a steady (if deliberate) pace. The Yankees’ haul so far only really consists of players they’ve re-signed, but it shouldn’t be discounted that they have signed Trent Grisham, Amed Rosario, Ryan Yarbrough, and Paul Blackburn while picking up Tim Hill’s team option. With the exception of the spend-happy Blue Jays, I’d argue the Yankees have been roughly as active as any other team in the AL.

On the site today, we’ll have our latest in our Free Agency series, as Jeff looks at the signing of Phil Niekro, while Jeremy airs some grievances. Also, Sam takes a gander at Tyler Mahle as an under-the-radar pitching addition, and Peter analyzes a very intriguing, if unlikely, trade target in Hunter Greene.

Questions/Prompts:

1. Of the players that have signed with or been traded to an AL East team this offseason, who will have the best 2026 season?

2. Will any of Kyle Tucker, Bo Bichette, or Framber Valdez sign before the year ends?
