PAY HIM: New Orleans Saints’ Chris Olave Nears Franchise First, DESERVES Contract Extension

Chris Olave is on the verge rewriting the New Orleans Saints record books, coming within reach of becoming the franchise’s first receiver with 100 receptions, over 1,000 yards, and double-digit touchdowns in a single season.

With two road games left and just eight catches, two TDs, and 80 yards needed for more historic marks, Olave proves he’s not just worthy of a contract extension—he’s central to the Saints’ offensive future alongside quarterback Tyler Shough and Kellen Moore’s retooled system.

Saints fans could have witnessed the final home games for Cam Jordan and Taysom Hill, two icons whose recent performances added NFL milestones to their legendary legacies. Jordan hit 130 career sacks and Hill joined rare company with 1,000 yards passing, rushing, and receiving—all before their families and friends in the Caesars Superdome. As New Orleans eyes a new era, decisions loom on veteran contracts and the evolving core around stars like Olave.

  1. Takes two to tango… people thinking Saints retain Olave just because they drafted him or they want to keep him might be in for a rude awakening.
Even with the massive $$$ that Taysom Hill contract expiring frees up, JJohnson and Shuck and others are growing. Olave won't stay unless OVERpaid big. His agent is Rosenhaus.
It will come down to if Olave wants the bag or if he wants a contender team. They already offered him, he declined (hence fifth year option). He knows Orleans is a dead end.
If Chris (or Drake London) doesn't sign extend by next preseason, I'd expect them to develop some "injury" 2026 to miss time and avoid risk before free agency.

  2. Olave is phenomenal. I truly love him, so please don't read this wrongly. He still leaves a lot to be desired on the field. This team has gotten so low that we get excited over every spark. There are still a lot of excellent throws that he fails to haul. In crunch times or tight games, all those really matter. I struggle with the idea of giving him WR1 money. Unfortunately, I haven't seen the type of dominance that warrants WR1 money.

  3. I would let the 5th year option play out and see where we are at that point. I’m still a little spooked by the injuries from last year and how we got stuck with MT’s contract. Also concerned about what Olave may want. I want to see him make that contested catch in the endzone. I want to see him catch that game winner against the dolphins. Let this thing play out. Maybe we draft a great receiver and don’t have to re-sign him.

  4. He FINALLY has one or two good games right before contract negotiations and now you think he should get paid!! After 3 years of continuous lackluster performances! Once he gets a new contract, very high risk of lackluster effort returning. Don’t pay him, trade him!

  5. Negative ghost rider. The dude said he almost retired due to concussions at the end of last year. Great season, but it would be terrible to extend him for a large amount of money.

  6. People in these comments acting like olave hasn’t been the top receiver when healthy and it’s not close 1 injury season and all of a sudden he’s terrible and trash
Yet he’s finally got a quarterback NOT trying to kill him every other throw!!! 90+ catches 1000+ yards and 6+ touchdowns when is the last time any other receiver has done dat for us ? 2019 Michael Thomas…. like what y’all talking about 😂😂😂

If u don’t feel like he’s worth dat money please explain to me who on this team and draft is???
