“I think he just wanted to catch the Detroit sports scene,” general manager Jeff Greenberg said.

  1. Each passing comment from the front office is one slap in the face to fans after another

  2. Was there any expectation that this trip was to sign one? I never got that impression.

  3. This is where things are frustrating. I get that there are significant reasons why you wouldn’t sign Skubal to what’s estimated to be somewhere in the ballpark of a 10 year $400 million contract. However, when the best pitcher in baseball seemingly WANTS to be here, you need to bite the bullet and sign him. Scott Harris wanted to build a winning culture, what message are you sending to your fans, and more importantly the team and other free agents, if you get to the threshold of winning but are unwilling to spend money on your premium assets when it’s time to get over the hump and compete for a World Series.

Last years team was not good enough. The only reason we won a playoff series was a couple unexpected hot bats and superior management. The loss in the ALDS was purely due to a lack of talent, and they don’t seem to get that. Lose Skubal and it gets even worse….

  4. Evan shamelessly worded that for engagement. Tarik likes sports and this was a great weekend for having the Detroit teams all at home and all at staggered times to see all of them in person. But hey, any time you can try to get the easily-baited portion of the fanbase riled up by making it about contract talk, you gotta do it I guess.

  5. What does Jeffrey Greenberg do? Really? He can’t sign players and is a GM. What does he manage ? Generally?

  6. Where did we ever think him coming to watch sports was to negotiate a extension . If he was negotiating it it would get done . But he’s hired boras for a reason he wants to get paid and everyone think it 10-400mil it’s more than that

  7. They’d have better luck catching a unicorn than having another pitcher as good anytime soon if they don’t resign.

  8. The shitty thing about it this situation is that he loves Detroit. He loves everything about the city and the fans and has made it clear he wants to be here

    He really needs to stay

  9. According to Tiger Territory Harris wasn’t even in town so I don’t think it meant anything other than him supporting tge local teams

  10. I too would like to be a VIP Guest at an MSU Basketball, Pistons, Red Wings, and Lions game for free

  11. This whole situation just blows because with any other agent it wouldn’t be the way it is. I’m trying everything to believe this is Tarik, on his own accord showing love and support for the city he hopes to stay in and not think it’s some kind of leverage ploy put on by Boras. At the end of the day, if Tarik wanted to stay, he would be at the table orchestrating a deal an his agent would be saying such. I get that it’s not that easy when the gap is as large as maybe a couple hundred million in salary but it just doesn’t seem like either side really wants to do what it takes to even try to get something done.
