Confirmed players on WBC roster so far. What do we think?

It’s a notably younger team this year. Goldschmidt, Arenado, Betts, Trout, and Alonso are all among non-returning veterans. Overall, a less proven group of players with several being in their first four years of service or fewer.

The biggest difference though lies in the pitching. Last time around the US was spearheaded by an aging Lance Lynn and Adam Wainwright. In their primes not a horrible group, but at their ages, not the most impressive. This year being lead by Skubal and Skenes with other young arms in the rotation and bullpen lead me to believe this team may have a better chance than the last.

With Judge, Raleigh, and Harper leading the offense and Skenes and Skubal shutting down the other team, I love our chances this year.

*A few of these players are not listed on the official roster as of yet, but have all been reported by Bleacher Report, CBS Sports, and Talkin’ Baseball. They did have Harper listed before his personal announcement this morning for what it’s worth.

  1. I think the DR could be more stacked on the offensive side. USA 100% has the pitching advantage though.

  2. Should make for a fun WBC. This line-up feels better than most in the past, so I think the USA stands a good chance to win. The pitching so far is deadly too.

  3. This might be the greatest team ever assembled. It’s basically an all star team with something to actually play for.

  4. I think the USA has a great chance to win it all. Especially with elite pitching. This team can both shut down other teams and slug out a 9-8 win as needed.

  5. Someone named Will smith wins every World Series so that’s the only name we need to pay attention to

  6. The pitching is nasty. And the commitment is there for the players now unlike 2009 and 2013. They want to win it now. Back to back finals appearances. I don’t expect less than a trip back to the final. Also good mix of speed and power, not just all power.

  7. Dominican produces that many elite hitters out of a population of 11.5 million. How are they doing that?
