Moose Rips the Mets for Tearing Down the Core
Marc Malusis breaks down a stunning Mets offseason and asks the question fans do not want to hear: is this really about chemistry, or is it about pitching failure and roster mismanagement?
Moose reacts to the Mets trading New York Mets Jeff McNeil to the Oakland Athletics, while revisiting the departures of Pete Alonso to the Baltimore Orioles and Edwin Díaz to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Moose digs into David Stearns’ vision, Steve Cohen’s approach, and why chemistry is not the real issue.
From payroll optics to bullpen gambles and rotation concerns, this is a blunt look at where the Mets stand and why the pressure is on the front office.

The dumbest most illogical arguement i keep hearing is "they didnt win anything, what did they win" how does that make any F'N sense to make your team actively WORSE because "they didn't win anything". So stupid. How about applying that to the Yankees. They didn't win anything so trade Aaron Judge. See how dumb that sounds? Its ridiculously stupid. MLB isnt NBA 1 single player cant carry a team to a WS. Case in point if that was possible the angels would have been a DYNASTY when they had Trout and Ohtani. Yet they didn't even make the playoffs. See how STUPID that is? It makes 0 sense. Now you lost the best closer in MLB, you lost your franchise homegrown all time home run leader in Alonso, you got no LF, no CF, no 1B, and Devin Williams who had his brain destroyed BY PETE as your new closer. This is a DISASTER. NYM wont make the plaoffs mark my words. Thank the boy genius.
Uh Wrong again. The Dodgers have the second or third best farm system/development system in baseball depending on who you ask. They care about every aspect of the system from front office, scouts, coaches, facilities. All are top notch. That’s why your best reliever Diaz took less than you would have given.
Fuck steve cohen. Sell the mets to winning ownership
It’s crazy about run prevention and defense. Besides Lindor and Semien the rest of the defense isn’t great either. Soto is average. Polanco has never played first and average when he was at second. I guess if start Torens and Taylor defense would be better. You know what helps defense good pitching. Nothing great out there
Do Met fans realize that Cohen is just looking for them to show to games, then lose their asses at his Casino next door?
pitching yes AND the lineup would go totally flat every year for weeks on end. all this core did was fall into an epic collapse EVERY year. every year there was the months where they totally fell apart. good riddance. whats funny is theyre gona win more games in 26' than they did in 25' so why is everyone so freaked out.
Doesn't Pete Alonso sell enough merch for the Mets to keep him at those prices?
You say it was the pitching but yet they haven’t done anything to improve pitching. All the moves and been to help the “chemistry.”
Losing Diaz n Alonso is going to haunt Met fans for years.
Let's keep the core that has made us look like a joke for the past 7 years. Remind me what the definition of insanity is again? It wasn't working for us…get over it already! These three players were the last of the previous ownership and I am thrilled that we’re finally shaking things up. Thank you front office, for not listening to the emotional and insane portion of us Mets fans. I’m giving Stearns two seasons to see what he can do after trimming the fat.
Good to hear Moose. This really wasn’t a “rip”
This guy is awful. Thought they got rid of all the dead wood
Exactly. Ripping core away is an excuse to cover for Stearns failure to construct the roster last year.
The "core" guys….the guys they're getting rid of were together since 2018-2019 and have been playing together for 5-6 years now. That's plenty of time to figure out how to win. Yes, the team did well in 2024, but that's mainly due to Iglesias, JD Martinez, Lindor, Winker, Alvarez, and Vientos being hot most of the year. Had nothing to do with Nimmo, McNeil, and Alonso. Yes, Pete got that one big hoe run, but that was really the only big hit he got that whole season. Can't keep waiting on those guys, and they're not getting any younger….if anything, they're very injury prone, other than Pete.
It was injuries to the rotation that was the downfall
"RIPS"??? 😅😅😅😅 ALL of these guys are TERRIFIED to get on UNCLE COHEN's bad side. Its HILARIOUS watching them ALL walk on egg shells 😅😅😅😅😅
If they don't replace Pete and Diaz with players as equal or better then they did not improve the team.Pete was only 31 not 34 or 35.Even if he hits 25 to 30 home runs as a dh the last 2 years that's better then most.we lost because of mediocore starting pitching at a high price.
Some people just mad that it's running Latino team Brandon and Jeff wasn't hitting in the post season and went men on base i like the general manager is doing getting guys that came hit because if they was all that the mets would won 3 4 championships good work general manager get more Latino brothers up in there you win championships
Stearns made the playoffs 5 seasons in 8 years in Milwaukee. His teams won ONE PLAYOFF SERIES. He then comes to NY, puts together that joke of a rotation and has only ofvthe worst collapse in met history.
JD basically brings Iglesias in. They have a incredible season and this moron lets a key piece walk. David Stearns is clueless. Hes a failure. And he needs to go. Mets fans need to not show up and tell Cohan to get rid of this bum
Mcneil has more guts n more balls than that loser Lindor or that clown Soto. Mcneil is our Wally Backman n stearns is a clueless jackass who is in far over his head
The lineup went into many slumps last year. It wasn't just pitching.
It's not terrible that Alonso, Diaz, Nimmo, and McNeil are gone. It's that Alonso left for just 5yr 155, and Diaz just 3yr 69, and Nimmo+$5mil for Semien, and McNeil+$8mil for lottery ticket. All moves great for the other team and bad for Mets. Even the McNeil trade. The A's get lead off hitting 2B 746OPS 2.0WAR for net $2mil this yr and very low prospect. It's idiotic. U have to get more for him even if u just needed him as backup 1B, LF, 2B.
McNeil cared not like a lot of these Mets players
Stearns doing what Cohen hired him to do. Get rid of big contracts. Cohen got his Casino.
The Oakland A's harmonious team of all time and they won three straight championships 7778 Yankees couldn't get along at all
Not giving Alonso his 5 years was just stupidity. He earned it! Phillies did the right thing with Schwarber and he is older. 126 RBIS, 126 RBIS.
That chemistry thing is the most BS excuse I ever heard. If Stearns had any belief in chemistry, he would have brought back the OMG last year—but we all know he puts zero stock into that. He tried to use the same tactic that worked in a miracle run in 2024 and it inevitably blew up in his face. Instead of wearing it and cha gong his tactics, he implodes the team essentially trying to put the blame on the guys, that are responsible for the Mets even having a prayer last year.
Honestly really good points made here
Pet peeve – and they all do it- they say last year’s team when referring to this year. Last year were the OMG Mets. Big difference THIS year.
Agree that chemistry in baseball is less important than in other sports and the pitching was bad. BUT – these transactions indicate that the clubhouse had to be pretty toxic for Stearns to be going about retooling this way. And if anybody thinks he didn't discuss the plan to fumigate the clubhouse with Cohen and have him sign off on this course before doing it they're nuts. Cohen obviously is on board. I suspect that they did not want whatever was going on in the clubhouse to drag down the young players they already have on the major league roster and the young players they have coming. Running it back was obviously not an option.
