  1. Well it’s better than what I expected from them at least. Should really be 3 years of full on tanking but 2 is a decent start.

  2. Honestly for once I like what I see as a whole. I will still be tuning in, and excited for years to come!

  3. That’s a reassuring read, if true.

That’s all I want, a fair chance of drafting top 5 this year and next year.

If we land a top 5 pick, sell Sherwood and end up with 4 picks in the top 40, I’ll consider this year a success for long term’s sake.

  4. Will only rest Demmer if we’re close to a lottery position?? Chef Alvin, my guy, you need to rest Demmer to get closer to a lottery position!! 😆😩

  5. The thing I wonder about is, their trio of wingers that are all signed long-term until they’re ~35/36 and how likely they are to move.

Not trying to knock these guys, but are DeBrusk/Garly/Brock the caliber of winger that’s still going to be able to hang in the NHL in their early-mid 30’s?

They very easily could just be a trio of Loui Erikssons on the books in a few years.

I’ll believe it when they actually do those things.

The off season has to be buying low on 1 year cheap UFAs that are flipped at the deadline for additional draft picks. Or even take advantage of teams that are cap strapped for additional prospects or picks.

Let the kids develop and play. If the vets aren’t up to par they should be benched and let the kid(s) sink or swim.

  7. I made light of it in the last thread but laid out like that it does sound promising.

    Time will tell I guess.

  8. I’m ok with this. It was a pipe dream that they’d actually sell everyone, but this seems like a good future looking plan to start stocking up and building up a new core properly… but let’s see what their actions actually dictate

  9. God I hope this is all true. It’s basically a rebuild without calling it that lol whatever floats their boat

  10. So only trading UFA’s. Let’s applaud them for doing the bare minimum a team should do when they are almost last place🔥🔥🔥

  11. I’ll believe it when I see it. I don’t trust them to actually do these things until these things are done. These guys and this franchise don’t deserve the benefit of the doubt.

And the fact they seem uninterested in moving any of their “veteran” core speaks like they are only interested in “rebuilding” for 6 months.

  12. If they follow through and trade out more assets. Promote young guys and get them to learn from vets. Acquire draft picks and draft well.

I may actually be excited again. Rebuild or bust.

  13. Pretty reasonable plan. Nice to read tempered expectations. They are building a pretty damn good young d core. Now if we can just get lucky in the next couple first round drafts.

  14. Hope is so precious, so sweet. I want to believe that JR will cement his legacy by setting up the Canucks to be cup winners 🥹

  15. I mean I guess they’re not gonna come out and say we’re open to trading Garland or Demko right? lol merry Christmas we just extended you now you’re up on the block 🍻

  16. Idk what to think of this team anymore. Each day it seems like we keep hearing we’re going this direction, then that direction, then back to here, then to there, etc…..

  17. Great stuff honestly, I agree that a full tear down isn’t needed, but a rebuild is definitely on the cards.

This management group keeps scaring me with all the buzzwords they use though.

  18. This timeline coincidently lines up with when OEL’s buyout is at its highest ($4.766 vs $2.126).

Management has had to navigate the cap hit like the anchor it is. When the cap hit was at it’s lowest, they went all-in in 23/24.

It will all be off the books in… 2031, right in time for Macklin Celebrini is UFA eligible.

  19. this team is not serious. They are placating us. And poorly i might add.

i’m sorry, but when you have a shot at a lottery pick like we do, keeping demko torpedos that with the roster we have.

Keep demko, forgo our chance at a top 5 pick and pick 15th. Cant wait for a podkolzin 2.0

what an “elite” core we have to look forward to in this draft.

    What a gut punch.

  20. This was the approach I was hoping for when last session ended. I feel like the Boeser contract will be an anchor in the later years. With lowered expectations for overall team performance I can see him taking on a mentorship roll, and being great at it.

With a couple of younger guys on the roster already, some still developing, and us seeming hoarding picks, I’m feeling optimistic for the first time in a while.

  21. Whelp, best we can hope for now is Quinn, Faber, and Kaprizov getting hurt and out for the rest of the season and the wild falling out of the playoffs.

  22. I would still trade veteran M Pettersson, not because he’s a bad player but because his acquisition cost is such a loud reminder of this team’s poor planning and all around organizational failure.

Same with Foote who just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. We all know he was hired to make Quinn Hughes happy and that was yet another dismal failure too.

  23. Most of this sounds good, but they still think they can turn it around in 2 years. Delusional.
