Thought this was an interesting topic. I personally think no, our defense didnt come alive until halfway as well as other offensive skill. I’d give us 8-9 at max if we had Shough

  1. No. Maybe one or two more. Moore spent a good part of the early season feeling things out; play calling was conservative to the point I don’t think another QB would have mattered.

  2. I think the really big role Rattler played this season was being the starter while Shough learned the offense and built chemistry. Rookies struggle when they start day 1.

  3. IMHO this happened as designed and I think starting him earlier undermines what we are seeing today. Shough needed time to clean things up.

  4. I think the 17% is super inaccurate considering it says ‘WE’ meaning it’s all Saints fans thinking we’re gonna pull a Patriots.

  5. Personally, I don’t think so. I think a good part of our current success was Moore figuring things out, and the general vibe of everyone around Shough. You could tell in the earlier parts of the season that no one really gave a damn especially defensively. Don’t get me started on Moore’s clock management in the early season either, or play calling.

To me, things didn’t really start to turn around until the 1st Bucs game. (I know what the box score says, but the defense genuinely came out to play with those 4th down stops.) After the Rams game, I feel like they started to find an identity. This is where they beat Carolina and nearly came back against Miami. Still laid an egg out there for Atlanta, but we’ll get ’em back.

    It’s really a timing thing.

  6. No. This entire season has been about development and setting a foundation. Offense really struggled the first part of the season, and I think some of that was kellen moore getting a feel for what worked best. We are now seeing a good dose of RPO plays and Read Options and even more deep balls.

  7. I think him sitting and working in the background helped him get where he needed to be, quicker. And he came in with low/no expectations of making the postseason, meaning he could test things out and see what he can and can’t get away with without too high of stakes. I actually really like how we did this.

  8. I don’t wanna devalue what Shough has been but had a pretty stacked schedule to start our season.

  9. As much as I would like to say yes, I can’t. Our schedule was a lot more difficult. Shough needed time to still see/ learn the offensive. All doubt needed to be removed as well as far as QB. No one on that team can now say Rattler didn’t have his shot. Switching to Shough was an all or nothing, so players knew it was Shough or a new QB next season. The team also had too many moving pieces. They had to figure out their identity as they still are doing now. New First time HC, new DC, position coaches, ST coaches etc.

  10. Stop. Not even worth considering. Things progressed as they progressed.

The only decision I questioned is why they held on to Groupe as long as they did.

  11. I don’t think Moore really figured out how to run this offense until a good bit into the season. Shough would’ve struggled bc he didn’t look any better than Rattler in the preseason. Now he looks better with less talent due to injuries.

I’m not upset with how this season went bc even if he started all season and we won the NFC South we would’ve been bounced round 1 of the playoffs.

  12. Realistically no. Roster is pretty thin regardless of QB. We had a tougher than anticipated schedule too. Seahawks, Pats and Bears were better than expected. We also lost to some bad teams like Miami and FTF. Not to say that Shough isn’t a major upgrade though. Maybe 10 next season if we can prevent/improve the sacks!

  13. O-line would have gotten him killed before that could happen. They desperately need to upgrade it

  14. Probably not, think there’s a reason Kellen didn’t go with shough at first and then switched when he did.

  15. As someone who had been calling for Shough since around the Bills game I think it’s impossible to claim we’d be any better off if he started from week 1. We don’t know how important it was to have Shough sit behind Rattler for those weeks
