Stafford is the leader in the MVP race by a considerable margin, no?
He is not head and shoulders above any passer. Stafford is playing at the same level or slightly above Mayes.
Maye 100% deserves to be in the MVP conversation and I would be over the moon if he wins but stop trying to make it seem like he is having an 07 Brady year.
Stafford is superior. It’s ok to accept it
We are pointing out here that he is not far off from the passing yards leaders even though Drake has 50+ fewer attempts than those guys, right?
If he somehow ends up winning MVP, good. The only MVP award I care for Drake to win though is the Super Bowl MVP one
Maye is playing like an MVP and in some other years it’s his to win. We can be okay with looking forward to future MVP awards for him, but this year it’s Stafford’s barring two awful games from him to end the season.
Stafford will win MVP this year unless they lose out and he throws like 7 picks with no touchdowns while Maye goes berserk the next two weeks.
I’m just happy our guy is showing so much promise and is even in the conversation this late into a season where we have a shot at the #1 seed, no one saw this kind of progression coming.
I mean it’s hard to ignore the TD/INT difference with Stafford
IMO Stafford is the clear MVP, Maye is the clearly superior QB— and the best in the league in his own tier with Allen.
Who cares?
Unless Stafford completely shits the bed AND Maye goes full-on long hair Tom Brady for the next two weeks it ain’t happening.
Die hard Pats fan.. he is not “head and shoulders above any passer” lol. He’s been amazing and is a top 5 QB.
He doesn’t have to be regarded by every Patriots fan as the clear cut best QB in the league. Just relax and be glad he is what he is.
The fact that he will be the 4th QB to reach 4,000 yards while 10 QBs have had quite a few more attempts than him is pretty crazy. He is the best deep thrower in the league right now and it’s not even close.
Head and shoulders above others? Really? OK dude. Nope. No one is all that much better than others this year. Drake is the most impressive due to his age and support cast, but it’s not like he’s having 1 of those 5k 50TD years Brady, Manning, Mahomes, and Brees had (with 1 less game, mind you).
You cherry picked 1 stat to show, which is super disingenuous. Goff, Stafford and Prescott are all top 5 as well in stats. Stafford, however, has more yards, more completions, waaaaaaaay more TDs (40 to Maye’s 25), less INTs, waaaaaay less sacks (19 to Maye 46), and pass rating. So, sorry, but Drake is not head and shoulders above everyone. He’s likely not even above Stafford. They each lead in 2 meaningful categories. They’re both top 5, usually 3, in all others. I know we’re supposed to be Homers here and support our guy, but you can’t just ignore someone else who’s playing just as well, if not slightly better.
This kid is going far. Hope he has a small injury free career like Brady
This is just silly. He has like 27 TD while Stafford and Allen have 40 and 37. It’s one thing to say he is a top 5 QB this year. Head and shoulders above the pack? C’mon now lol
Voters are going to see 40 TDs and 5 INTs from Stafford and give it to him. Especially when that is way more passing TDs than anyone else.
Lamar won it when Josh should have, Josh won it when Lamar should have. It’s not about the best player and never was.
The only reason id put Maye over Stafford is because hes doing more with less. I get Diggs is playing out of his mind for a 30+ year old WR with an ACL injury, but lets be real which team would trade their weapons for ours? This team doesnt have a running game unless Henderson breaks off 50 yard TDs but aside from those carries I think his average is like 3 yards per carry (it was 2.9 at some point and I havent checked since then, so it could be higher or lower at this point. Someone correct me if im wrong) while Stafford has a good o-line and a good rushing game.
All that being said Stafford deserves the MVP. His numbers are crazy good. I think hes the only QB in nfl history to have like 3 or 4 straight games with at least 4 TDs in each game and zero INTs.
Vegas wasn’t built for no reason. Stafford is the odds on favorite
Staffords td:int at 40:5 is pretty cray
Give Josh McDaniels top coordinator award while we’re at it.
Nobody is catching Stafford. He’s having one of those years. Drake is great, but your title here is nonsense.
Im a Homer just as much as the rest of us, but i think maye is out of the race. By a good amount
Stafford has the advantage of playing home games under a roof which helps stats, but he’ll most likely win it
A couple of weeks ago, I believed that if the Patriots got the 1-seed and the Rams lost the division, Maye would have maybe a 60% chance. It wouldn’t be higher, because of the TD / INT disparity and Stafford’s advantage in proven stature.
Now I think that even if this happens (Patriots get the 1-seed and the Rams do not win the division), Maye has maybe a 30% chance. Since that time, Stafford has had 2 incredible games (one a loss that was clearly not his fault). Usually people make up their mind for season awards like MVP around the 70 to 80% mark of the season, and Stafford (who was already the de facto leader) did everything he needed to do for people to say “Ok, I’ve seen enough.” These awards don’t just look at the final stats, they look at narrative and momentum, and at the crucial moment when it was a real battle, Stafford excelled and probably locked up the award.
The Rams have one more national game (next Monday), so there’s one more opportunity for Stafford to theoretically look bad and for the Rams to theoretically suffer an upset. If that happens, the odds will change. If SEA and SF are playing for the division on the last Sunday night game, and people realize “wait, the Rams aren’t even in 2nd place right now?,” that could matter, especially if the Patriots have locked up the 1-seed earlier in the day.
But I think Stafford is the MVP in all likelihood of the possible ways that the rest of this season plays out.
Dak Prescott is the weirdest QB to try and rank.
who cares about the individual accolades?!…Drake don’t! Kid reminds me of that Brady spirit…only thing that matters is the trophy at the end.
Coach of the Year ✅
MVP ✅
SuperBowl…
He’s not the leader though, Stafford is.
I trust Vegas and their super computers
He’s a great player but clearly isn’t all the way there yet. He still has a lot to work on, which honestly makes it more impressive he’s already this good because if this is 75% of how good he could be, I really think he could be the best in the league one day.
I’d rather have him be an elite player than get MVPs.
Lol
If he’s the leader in MVP race get your bets in now before the bookies figure it out because they think it’s Stafford.
Drake Maye fell out of serious contention when he lost to the bills at home with a chance to lock up the division. Plain and simple, MVP’s rise to those occasions.
Josh Allen on the other hand has now beaten Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodger’s, Joe Burrow, Baker Mayfield head to head this year while they were all healthy and did so in mostly dramatic fashion. He also has more rushing yards and total td’s, many of which were at pivotal moments to keep critical drives going.
In all honesty, the MVP race is down to Stafford vs Allen. I believe it’s Stafford’s for the taking. His efficiency this year along with the team standing can not be ignored
Every sports book I can find still says Drake Maye is not likely to win MVP I mean he’s not a crazy distant option but he’s like + 180 or something. Staffird is -140
Stats are tremendous, sometimes misleading, metrics but they’re also informed by the sentiments of the specific people who have an MVP vote. Matthew Stafford has never won the MVP in his 17-year career. Like it or not, the people who have a vote will likely include that as part of their consideration whether they’d admit to it or not.
Anyone who thinks Maye is ahead of Stafford right now is silly. Stafford is 40:5 td:ints, while Drake is 25:8.
As a superstitious sports fan, I don’t want him to win MVP because then we definitely aint winning the super bowl
