what the fuck is lipscomb university? sounds more made up than southern miss. did this guy ever consider just writing reddit posts and getting a real job?
While I agree with the principle, I’m not sure comparing us spending money to the Dodgers spending money is apples to apples.
The Dodgers are the main team in their market and even when the White Sox are good, I don’t think it balances out the same. I could be wrong.
And I’m all on board for the billionaire to spend his money instead of dying on a pile of cash, I’m sure it’s more complex than we think it is.
Love the signing, love the willingness to compete for big name free agents (even if no one else wants them). I think it shows ambition from the front office.
“Should Be a Lesson”…to an 89 year old! This is hilarious! Glad the author just figured things out.
Jerry’s ownership group has never believed in spending money to make money.
They’ve signed 2 premier free agents in 46 years. Carlton Fisk & Albert Belle.
He threatened to leave the state if he didn’t get a tax payer funded stadium. Claimed they needed more skyboxes for revenue to contend. He not only got that but the state gave him the ridiculous team friendly stadium lease. Not to mention, a bunch of upgrades and renovations afterwards.
What were the results after getting all of this?
Going into year 36, 10 seasons with a payroll in the Top 10.
6 post season appearances and a single World Series Championship in that time span.
Then he started crying that he needed a new, tax payer funded, stadium again. In order to contend and keep the team in Chicago…which thankfully got pretty much zero support.
In total, 7 post season appearances and a single World Series Championship in 46 years of owning the franchise.
The 2005 team won 3 post season series. The Sox have not won a single playoff series in any of the other appearances.
Hopefully, Ishbia will change things dramatically.
