I am one of the many fans who don’t want to see Schoen return. I’m curious about peoples’ views on whether there should be any limits on what new GM or Head Coach should be able to do? What elements of the current team are “untouchable”.

Examples:

Is trading Burns (who I love) for a haul of picks on the table?

What about evaluating a new QB (not necessarily this year/Mendoza)? Again I like Dart but I’m also not a GM tasked with rebuilding a franchise!

How deep should a rebuild go?

And if there are folks who think we have most of the needed talent- do you still think Schoen should be fired and why?

  1. Personally, I think that trading/replacing Dart would be extremely foolish. He already carries a bargain-basement price for a QB (his AAV is about $4.5m) and I think that he has plenty of potential for growth. He may not have a top-tier arm but it’s perfectly serviceable and his “unteachable” traits are strong. He moves well, under pressure, and his ability to read coverages is likely to improve.

Give the guy some better receivers and I think that we can win with him, potentially for a long while.

  2. Dart, Burns, Thomas and Lawrence are untradeable. Those are premier players at the premier (#1, #2 and #3) positions. If you’d trade them away for picks you’d aim at literally hoping to land their talents.

They should be Giants for life. Build around them.

  3. I’m a homer, keep all these guys and use those goddamn draft picks well. Add Nabers, Skattebo, Tracy to the list too. Don’t know if we’ll keep Robinson

  4. I dont think any player is truly “untouchable”. What being untouchable really means is that the value they give their current team is higher than what any other team would be willing to offer. AT is invaluable to the Giants. Him playing healthy has elevated our line from bottom 5 to borderline top 10. But if a contender reached out and offered 3 firsts we would obviously ship him. But nobody would offer that.

Anyways I think the “untouchables” are Dart, Nabers, Burns, Carter, Lawrence, and AT.

Going against the grain I don’t think the Giants need to do any sort of rebuild. I think when fully healthy this is the most complete and talented roster we’ve had since we won the Super Bowl. If we land the first pick and trade down, potentially drafting 2-3 day 1 starters I think this team could easily have wild card potential.

  5. Burns, Carter, Nabers, AT, Skatt, and Dart; that’s the core I want them to build around. Everyone else can potentially go but won’t because we have far too many holes.

Right away they need to dump Banks, Evan Neal, and Hyatt. Banks and Hyatt are a liability whenever they’re on the field and Neal can’t even see the field. I want Darius Slayton off this team too; he’s another liability and with so many years in the league already he’s shown you what he is time and time again. Obviously his cap hit doesn’t make that likely and no team is going to want his butter fingers even as a 3rd/4th receiver so it’s probably just to bury him on the depth chart.

Two players I’d key in on trading is Dexter Lawrence and Thibodeaux. Lawrence I get that he was good but he’s not showing any of his old self this season and maybe at this point he needs a change of scenery after all of the losing. The problem is I’d want at least a first round pick (to replace him) and then at least a second or third+fourth to get some value back; I’m not sure if anyone would be willing to go for that. He might be someone to trade at next year’s deadline assuming he has some bounce back but not a complete one. Same with Thibodeaux; nobody is going to want him now and we’re seeing Abdul Carter’s potential emergence. If the new DC can scheme him with Burns and Carter on the field together then I’m fine with keeping him. Otherwise he could be a trade deadline player to move for more draft capital in ’27.

  6. Trading the pick for a haul, build my secondary, keep bricillo, figure out a way to get rid of Slayton.

  7. If Dart were coming out of Ole Miss in the draft with his NFL tape he would go 1 OA so all that talk is silly.

  8. This is a hot take, but the roster is not as bad as our record is. Theres actually some good pieces on this team, I wouldn’t change too much. If we end up with 1.1, I’d trade 1.1 to the jets for 2 firsts, 2 seconds, and Garrett Wilson lol

  9. Players under rookie contracts are not going anywhere. Dart, Nabers and Skatt (to a lesser degree) are the foundation pieces to build around. The rest of the players on rookie contracts wouldn’t warrant an upside return worth trading. That doesn’t mean they are without value but trading a player that shows promise after a year or two for a third round pick isn’t very appealing.

  10. Players drafted in the last 2 years are cheap and still developing, So we are better off seeing if a new coaching staff can get more out of them. Burns and Thomas should be untouchable they are the best players on the team this year and play premium positions, you would be using any capital you get in a trade to try and replace them. Dex is the wild card, hes arguably the best defensive player in the league when healthy, but he had a down year and could net a massive haul for a team looking to make a push. Everyone one else can go.

  11. At this point, I think the focus needs to be on filling the holes and creating depth for this team to be successful. We’ve all seen over and over a starter goes down and there is nobody of any quality behind him.

I would get rid of Hyatt, Neal, Banks and anyone who brings zero value to the team. I wish we could move on from Slayton but not likely with the cap hit. I would trade down with the 1:O1 if we have it and get a haul of picks. Get some big solid linebackers in the draft or FA and work to fix the awful run defense.

This year honestly the coaching hiring is most important. We’ve need someone who is a good coach and a leader.

Worst case, we have another awful year, we move on from Dart (if it’s him) or completely tear down the position groups that failed and get new talent in

  12. It isn’t as though the team is completely devoid of talent. Poor coaching, a piss poor secondary, and lack of weapons for Dart seem to be the core issues. If you’re a GM assessing the Giants, you have a QB with the potential to be the guy, an alpha at WR in Nabers when healthy, a blue chip OT in Thomas (and decent overall OL play when healthy), a star edge rusher in Burns and another high ceiling guy in Carter.

You want as many darts (no pun intended) at the draft as possible. Sadly, this raiders game feels like a must-lose so that we could offload 1.01 for a huge haul of picks for the next few years. Yes, the team has been awful and we need to rid the stench of losing but we do have talent at premium positions.

  13. Why the fuck would they rebuild??? This team doesn’t lack talent. It lacks coaches who have a brain. Honestly it’s the same issue as the fanbase, lack of brain power

  14. Here’s what the 2026 offseason should look like:

    – Re-sign: Daniel Bellinger, Austin Schlottman, Micah McFadden, Jermaine Eluemunor, and Cor’Dale Flott

    – Cut: Jon Runyan Jr. (saves $9.25M), James Hudson (saves $5.5M), Chris Board (saves $2M), Bobby Okereke (saves $8.25M), Graham Gano (saves $4.5M), Jamie Gillan (saves $1M)

*Freed up cap space = $30.5M + $24M in Available cap space = $54.5M in cap space.

    – Sign (if available): WR Christian Kirk (replaces Wan’Dale who will want too much), IOL Teven Jenkins or Kevin Zeitler, OT D.J. Humphries, LB Cole Holcomb or Quincy Williams, K Joey Slye, P Blake Gillikin

*Remaining depth signings dependent on coaching staff

    – Trade: Dexter Lawrence for multiple picks (+ a young player ideally). As much as I’d like to keep him, the reality is he’s been on a decline since Wink left and he’s owed a lot of money for a declining player. He ain’t getting any younger. Move him while he still has value. Not like our run defense can get much worse.

1st Round Pick: trade back from whatever top 5 pick they’ll have for multiple picks this year and next.

    – Draft:
1st round: WR (hopefully they have 2 first round picks and can also add another OL)
    2nd Round: DL
3rd Round: LB (hoping they add a 3rd rounder by trading back)
4th Round: WR (need to give Dart as many weapons as possible)
    5th Round: Defense
    6th Round: Depth
    6th Round: Depth

They dont have the resources to make any “sexy” moves this offseason. What they need to do is build a solid foundation to build upon going forward. This offseason plan does that. Its hard to say who to draft without fully knowing what picks they will have so I just outlined the positions of need.

  15. Dart and Carter untouchable.

Even if they showed very limited promise, its just economical.

Otherwise than that, open fucking season.

Back to back seasons of 3 wins=Nearly everything is on the table and its time to be cold and calculating.

  16. Everyone except for Jaxson Dart/Skat should be on the table and that includes Dex. There is a losing mentality in that locker room that needs to be excised and no one except those two should be immune from it.

  17. Yes we have untouchable.

Dart, Nabers, AT, Carter should all be untouchable

Touchable but expensive: Dex, Adebo, Burbs

    Entertaining offers everyone else
