  5. It's not that they WON'T trade Straw…it's that they CAN'T trade him. They're going to give him $11 million over the next two seasons to be a 4th or 5th outfielder/defensive sub.

    That's why Loperfido and Lukes are the two most likely candidates to be traded. Loperfido makes sense because he can go to one of the rebuilding teams like Pittsburgh or Colorado or Miami, learn on the job with little pressure, make mistakes, grow as a player, and either fetch more value for the acquiring team in 2-3 years or possibly become part of a rebuilder-turned-team-on-the-rise-to-being-a-contender.

  6. Keep Straw. Trade Loprifido & Lukes for pitching help, preferably too the National League . One rule change I would like too see in the MLB is having the DH apply to both league's.

  8. Top teams have players that should be in the show, but are stacked in the cupboard of AAA. Jays have great AAA depth in their RP's & they have Bowden & Tiedemann as SP depth in AAA. Loperfido is by far their top AAA position player & only MLB ready one He would start on many of the bottom half teams in the league. Jays could let Springer, Varsho & Straw walk next year. ($42mil total salary 2026) Santander would slide to DH & Lukes (controlled through 2030) & Loperfido (controlled through 2030) them as starters/1 as 4th OF. With either Barger as the other OF or perhaps Tucker. Lukes & Loperfido provide great bang for the buck in terms of $/War. They can occupy your 3rd & 4th OF positions on a Championship team. They're both great character guys. I think the Jays hold onto both.

  10. Depending on what happens – it should be Barger traded, not Loperfido.

    I know what we all see in Barger with the power and the arm, but it's not enough – I promise. He's kinda bad (compared to major leaguers) at every other aspect of the game.

    Other than Bo, upgrading 3rd and RF are their two priorities. That doesn't tell me they "love" Barger.

    Other players with his numbers are in the 2.5 – 3 WAR range. Barger was 1.2.

    I hate to pick on Barger and for whatever reason a lot of people don't like WAR as a measure.. but when it's as invaluable as Barger's, you gotta notice – for the love of the team

  13. Loperfido…a big, strong, good hitter who has shown he can handle major league pitching and seems on the verge of a breakout season. Trading him now would be selling low and not a bright move or something a well run organization like the Blue Jays would do.

  14. Rosenthal reported it's likely Tucker signs elsewhere than the Jays – read it on the sh!tter this morning – didn't hear you note that! Lops has ZERO arm in the OF, should be a 1st baseman … still Shatkins will give him away for a nobody pen guy with 489 ERA who will be DFA'd before July, then blame his awful scouting on the player not getting the job done.

  15. Just wait to acquire a closer at the trade deadline, no need to overpay for anything atm. Teams will dump salary via FIRE SALE prior to next season's inevitable lockout. When a lockout is looming from an expired CBA, there is no certainty aside from cost certainty especially given wtf is going on the USA atm…

  18. Im on board with any trades/signings that get us back to the WS and win it.

    If that means Bo not returning, If that means Loperfido and/or Barger getting dealt. If that means trading Varsho for a closer even, anything is on the table.

    Atkins has made at least 1 trade every off-season. I expect this one to no different

  26. Merry Christmas everyone! Keep Loperfido. He's got a good glove and a good arm. He hits well and he has good speed. Power will come as he matures. Only consider him a trade chip if the team lands Kyle Tucker. Leave some room to audition pitchers: Gage Stanifer, Adam Macko, Angelo Bastardo, Rick Tiedeman, Lazaro Estrada, Jake Bloss and Johnny King a little bit down the line. Would love Tatsuya Imai. His Vulcan Change Up is a killer.

  27. It's more than that. There are 11 candidates before signing Tucker. Varsho, Springer, Santander, Straw, Schneider, Barger, Loperfido, Lukes, plus Shreck, Clase and even Pinango. Trade a couple to the Cards for Donovan.

  38. Leo + Loperfido + Arias should get that done, If they want pitching with Loperfido then you have to stomach moving King / Stanifer / Bloss

  39. They need to move off Loperfido/Schneider/Lukes. With or without the addition of Tucker there's too much surplus. Don't forget we moved Will Wagner when they had no room for him either
