To anyone that says “teams don’t tank”: The Raiders are placing star TE Brock Bowers on injured reserve today, officially ending his season, per sources.

  1. I wouldn’t call it tanking. If your star player is banged up with a couple of games left with no incentives to play for. Why play him?

  2. There is a difference between benching a player to tank and benching a player so you dont risk them getting hurt in a meaningless game.

  3. While not great, Jeanty is still the anti-tank heat seeking missile. Gonna destroy the Giants lack of run defense.

  4. I’d say that resting your good players is the closest that Teams come to actively tanking.

I still don’t believe that the players, at the pro level, are actively playing to lose. If a team is awful, the replacements are all extra concerned about their next job. Why would a third string tight end intentionally play poorly? Does he really care that a team, which is likely to cut him, will get a better draft pick?

To be honest, I’m totally up for a few “All-Scrub” games. I always have a soft spot marginal players, anyway. Who knows, maybe someone will have a breakout game. Cruz was a UDFA, after all.

Let’s see Ihmir Smith-Marsette get snaps at WR. Is Beau Collins still around, if so: play him. What’s that German Tight End’s name: Markus Mang? Give him a shot. Turbo Miller, let’s see him at RB1. Hell, let’s even see if Russ can still throw a few more moonballs. If he’s boring, we can activate famous Jameis.

    The possibilities are endless.

  5. We should just start Kafka at QB for the last 2 games

He’s not even 40 yet, a spring chicken for today’s NFL… no one can call us out for tanking, we’re giving him a look for next season…

  6. When people say that ‘teams don’t tank’, they are referring to the players and coaches.

Front offices absolutely try to tank

  7. This is the level tanking occurs at, with roster moves. Players and coaches don’t tank on game day because with the speed the game moves at it would be just inviting injuries

  8. I say if Thomas is out you bench Dart. Start all of the guys you know you’re not keeping (Hyatt, etc.)…then beat the cowgirls!!!

  9. Ok I know giants fans have a hard time using their brain so I’llale it nice and easy PLAYERS AND Coacjes DO NOT TANK. Front office tanks

  10. I don’t think anyone has ever said teams don’t tank. Teams tank, players make business decisions.

  11. Giving players the physical break they need in a hopeless season is a little different than trying to tank. His backup is going to play his butt off.

  12. Resting injured players to avoid further injury is not tanking. Thibs was shut down for the same reason

  13. Who said teams don’t tank? Plenty of teams do…every year, every sport.

He is injured and it would be stupid to play.

  14. “In rather strange news, the NY Giants have placed their entire offensive, wr corps, and QB on IR”

  15. I was against sitting Dart because he needs the game reps. Then 3/5 of the line got hurt. He already knows how to run for his life, playing without AT doesn’t accomplish anything.
