OKC Thunder Pummeled AGAIN by Spurs | Worrisome Trends
Oklahoma City Thunder outmatched by San Antonio Spurs—have worrisome postseason trends begun to surface? Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams struggle as Victor Wembanyama disrupts OKC’s ofense, raising tough questions about the Thunder’s lack of physicality, inconsistent co-stars, and streaky three-point shooting. Can Mark Daigneault find answers to the Spurs’ relentless size and speed, especially when OKC’s usual transition game is shut down?
Rylan Stiles highlights how the Spurs have limited two of Oklahoma City’s biggest strengths—forcing turnovers and elite perimeter defense—while amplifying their half-court offensive issues. Discussion includes the impact of injury concerns for Holmgren and Williams, the role of secondary scorers, and why San Antonio’s blueprint may be hard for the rest of the NBA to copy. Upcoming rematch and the evolving contender list in the Western Conference get a spotlight. Is OKC still built for championship success, or does San Antonio signal a growing threat?

Did the Thunder make a mistake by not signing Cam Johnson or some other CONSISTENT 3 pt shooter in the off-season? If yes, do you think a similar acquisition is necessary/possible at the trade deadline?
The only teams who have a combination of the size and defense of San Antonio are the Rockets and Timberwolves. Nuggets could beat them due to offense. But other teams cant really replicate what San Antonio does. Spurs have 3 guards 2 of them jumbo size who matchup well with SGA. And an all world defensive talent in Wemby. The only team to truly come close to that are the Wolves.
Let me preface:
2023 OKC had no answer for Dallas 2 bigs.
Well we did… passing. When we relentlessly passed exposing deep threat it freed up the paint and OKC won games 1,4 w/ game 6 coming down to wire.
2024 we got IHart and solved that problem.
Fast forward to 2025…
Game 1 vs Spurs Wemby came off the bench and shocked the Thunder who had no answer.
At that moment I said 2bigs…
IHart/Carlson guard Wemby anytime he is in w/ Chet or def. Spec helping out w/ double team.
Break his rhythm and force San Antonio to rely on other players to come up big.
That all being said OKC has shot/played horribly in all 3 losses as well as the loss to Minnesota.
OKC will bounce back to win game 4-5 against the spurs plus win potential playoff series 100%
I disagree, the Thunder just aren’t as good as people thought. The Spurs are just better.
They old me this team was winning 75
French Spurs fan here, i like your analysis, you are eloquent, unbiased and you have good understanding of the game 👍🏾
Another Spurs fan here, you're absolutely right about the "the season doesn't end right now" assessment. These 3 wins have been great for us, in the moment, but I'm taking the long view on it. Lots left to see, especially when it comes to playoff ball. We have the talent, but you guys (and Denver, and even GSW and Houston) have the post season experience. SAS might need a run in April and May to takeaway some lessons before contention in earnest can begin.
That's how I'm approaching it anyways.
respect to u sir. from spurs fan / Philippines.
Don't Panic, Knicks beat the Spurs, it is still possible. Just solve the math equation.
What OKC lacks are elite players above 6'8 other than Chet. That is why the other Texan teams play them well. They have the size and length.
You have so many SPURS fans here. You’re doing a good job! I respect your outlook on things
Gotta support the boys win or lose. The wide open looks have got to start going down
Is this a loosing streak?
I think this is a good thing for OKC. They are discovering their weaknesses now, and there are so few teams that can truly compete with OKC, that playing the Spurs so many times in such a short period this early in the season shines a light on what OKC needs to work on. It definitely sucks. Of course we want to see our team win and dominate, but like Shai said, they need time to watch and process the Spurs games so they know what to work on and can get better. OKC is clearly not happy or satisfied with these losses, so we know they will not be complacent. They will find a way to get better. I think what has made it extra hard on the fans is the “all or nothing” narrative that OKC is either “ruining the NBA because they are too great” or that OKC is “total garbage just playing an easy schedule until the Spurs.” I don’t believe either extreme. OKC is a great team with very talented players and coaches/front office. They are much better than many teams, but they are more on par with a few of the other great teams. It just means lots of competition and opportunities to learn and grow. It’s also a good time for us as fans to remember that nothing is guaranteed and winning a championship is monumentally difficult. There’s still plenty of time in this season, and hopefully OKC will prevail. They have the talent and the ethos to win another championship. They’ll just need to make some corrections and continue to work on their shooting to win against the other great teams in the league. They definitely can do it if all goes well.
Spurs are getting way better shots than thunder. When wemby is in the paint is a no go zone for okc, while San Antonio gets dunks and wide open 3’S
Respect man, you’re good at this brother. Credit where credit is due
Isn’t it AWESOME?!😁
You sure about the thunder having no desire? I saw them diving for loose balls and fighting, undercutting Wemby. I think they wanted it, just had no answers.
Feels good to see my Spurs grow and challenge the best. Thunder vs Spurs is must see tv I don’t care what the NFL got to show. Best game of the day in my opinion. Go Spurs!!!!
Preach brother! GSG!
where are the THUNDER fans? All SPURS fans in this comments blog
Wemby hasn’t even played starter minutes in any of the games. The Spurs are simply better than the Thunder. They might lose to the Nuggets or Rockets because those teams can highlight the Spurs weaknesses. But, they are a nightmare matchup for the Thunder.
I've always liked this Locked on OKC host but there isn't A team in the NBA I HATE more then the Thunder.
Hate your fans. Hate your players. Hate your team. Coming from A Pacers fan that hates the Knicks I thought more then anything alive i can't believe I actually hate OKC more.
ALOT more. One achilles tear away from winning Game 7. Everyone on the planet knows it.
OKC are classic bullies. When you fight back they get thrown off their Game. They are banking on the opposing team giving up.
I was voting for the Spurs like they were the Pacers
Rylan once again you are the best of the best. You don’t miss
Spurs had the right to flex. They went in as +9.5 underdogs after beating them twice in 10 days.
Lmao 😂
I think we need to think about trading for an ELITE scorer from the bench. We need a bucket getter that isn't so damn inconsistent. Sometimes Wiggins and Joe have it going but I'd say there have been a lot of times in the past 2 years that we either lost or almost lost because we get nothing from our bench way too often!!
Rylan🤦🏾♂️ these Spurs man, I called it..man they gonna be a problem 😳
🦬🌩️🥶🔶🏆🔶🥶🌩️🦬
⚡️⚡️THUNDER🆙⚡️⚡️
Spurs are just a matchup nightmare against OKC. Our offense is too limited in the halfcourt. And they are just too athletic for our defenders to contain
Spurs fan here. Tuned in occasionally to get your take so far this year. Always been leveled and unbiased. No hot takes, or trying to rile people up. Good job
Wemby is literally bullying Chet and he’s not doing anything about it like bro be a man and fight back!😭 Not literally of course💀
San Antonio native in DFW here and Spurs' fan all my life and I'm glad I clicked and watched this vid. I have to say your breakdown is awesome, unbiased and even made me see some things I didn't notice in these 3 games. Keep up the good work! I don't know how the cards fall come playoff but I hope this you get to talk about this as a Western conference finals match up.
You give Chet lead management
Spurs fan here. It's so weird Thunder is missing a lot of open 3's. Spurs' expectations were only 6th seed as stated by Wemby. We just hope both teams are healthy in the post season. Looking forward to a great playoff matchup
OKC got championship hangover from the blistering start again. Hard to maintain the momentum through the long regular season. Young Spurs are HOT now, but things can change in the playoffs!
Let’s not panic. Just hold the 1 seed for the playoffs.
Don't normally make takes but:
Teams that can limit their turnovers while simultaneously having a good defensive scheme expose one of the Thunder's biggest weaknesses, their half court offense. It's way too Shai centric which makes it easy to defend especially when you factor in the streaky shooting. Their halfcourt offense has to improve!
Thunder has only SGA that can penetrate the Spurs interior in the half court game. Spurs has 5 of those.
These Spurs fans learned from the Mavs fans mistakes. I'm impressed by their humility.
Dort is dirty as 💩. He should be banned from NBA
As a die hard knicks fan I really appreciate this post game show
Shockingly knicks has been beating the spurs for a while now and spurs been beating on okc for about 3 games in a row
These games gives me as a knicks fan so much hope for when we play the thunder in March
wemby best 6th man
No doubt this Spurs team have their eye on the OKC Thunders team when they built this team due to we are the best NBA regular season team for the last 3 years. They brought in Fox as their SGA equivalent, drafted Wemby to mirror Chet, picked Castle as a JDub-style wing, added Dylan Harper in the Nikola Topić mold, and signed Luke Kornet as an iHart-type big. They can run 10 rotational players for any given night if all are healthy. But they're still not as deep as the OKC Thunders. Here is the matchup we could potentially face in the playoffs against them. SGA vs Fox, Chet vs Wemby, JDub vs Castle, Ajay vs Harper, IHart vs Luke, I Joe vs Barnes, AC vs Vassell, Lu vs Keldon. That's about it for them. But we still have Caso, Wiggins, Jaylin, Kenrich to mix things up if some of these role players have an off night. They would eventually run out guys to go man to man with us if both teams play out their normal self. Also, we have those playoff experiences as a team and they don't. As a Thunders fans, we all know too well, come playoff time, when things get tight, it's a different ballgame compare to the regular season. You would only understand what it takes once u experienced that. And we have and they don't. And that would make a huge difference for the win or loss in a close game.
We need to play Ousmane and Branden more and get them going. If they play well, that could give Mark another options if all things failed like the last 3 Spurs games. Ous played good defense, while Branden can hit 3 and can replace IHart occasionally if the match up doesn't go well for IHart. Or we may have to trade away Ousmane for Brook Lopez or another big 3&D wing player. We can play Brook and Chet together to open the court more for SGA. Teams would respect him enough and not leaving him open in the corner 3' and double team SGA.
Funny thing is Wemby only playing like 24 mins 😂
Another Spurs fan in here since the early 80s, great analysis, unlike the salty guys over at Bring the Thunder podcast, no disrespect to them. And yes, it's what happens in the post season and Spurs got much work to do still. Spurs are still building themselves as a team to be a well oiled machine, no there yet. These 2 teams are much alike being how the Thunder have mirrored the Spurs model of excellence and have had success in doing so. The Spurs, by design, have been and are building their squad to beat the Thunder…and are almost there. That's where we are at now. By the way, keep an eye on your boy, Lu Dort, smells dirty to me, could have ended Wemby's season yesterday. I think you all know which play that was.
Spurs fan. Respect the video good sir.
