A few weeks ago Pollard was as obvious a cut as it gets. He clearly looked like he had lost his juice and it would save 7M against the cap with just 2M of dead money to cut him.
But the past 3 weeks he has legitimately looked explosive again out of nowhere. The OLine is helping too, but Tony himself is definitely playing his best ball again. He just needs 51 yards to have his 4th straight 1000 yard season.
The guy is always healthy and seems to have all the character traits the new regime desires. I don't think he's a sure cut anymore. Especially when you consider there aren't many good options to replace him in FA that would be better, cheaper, fit the new regime's vision character-wise, AND aren't major injury liabilities. Spending high $ or major draft capital on a RB makes absolutely no sense for a rebuilding team without a truly established OL or winning record yet, anyways.
Would you like to see Pollard finish out his contract next year, or do you still want to cut him?

Finish it out. Consistency is important and the team is working toward and improved goal. New coach will not want to continue the whole load being on a young QB and receiving core. You won’t do better in FA or the draft than pollard.
Outside of a couple games sprinkled in, his yards per carry averages arent bad at all. His numbers arent what they could be because 1) The line was shit when Callahan’s were here and 2) We were playing from behind in every single game so we were throwing it way more. I never understood the cut Tony conversation. Theres bigger fish to fry (looking at you Calvin)
A lot of people were down on him, but I think he looked good and ran hard all year. People are blocking a little better and Cam is making better decisions on the read option.
I don’t mind running it back, but the real question is if the $7.2m in cap savings can be better used somewhere else.
He’s still a cut. There’s just no reason to carry a 29 year old RB on this team.
Having a reliable RB is huge for a young QB and the guys behind him on the roster don’t really inspire much confidence. I’d rather they keep him for at least one more season, especially since there really aren’t any upgrades in the upcoming free agency class, that they won’t have to pay an arm and a leg for, and I doubt they draft an RB early.
Bro read my post from October
You can bring in a young, promising RB and at the same time not have to cut TP. His contract isn’t that big that you absolutely have to let him go and Titans have tons of cap space this summer. He’s been playing well enough to justify keeping him, but he’s obviously not the long term solution
He can be replaced in free agency.
I would still cut bait. Draft a running back and move on. Spears,Mullings and a rookie will do just fine.
Pollard and spears is not the problem.. I’d like to draft a big short yardage guy though… But really it’s OLine, receivers, coaches
I never liked the idea of cutting him. This team has almost no talent on offense so getting rid of one of the only position groups that actually does have a shred of it never made sense. I get not wanting to pay for an older running back but they have plenty of cap space and he’ll only be 29. There’s a very realistic chance that Spears will never be able to be a full time starter anywhere due to his knees.
