The NHL should change the Chicago Blackhawks logo #nhl #racism #IndigenousPeoplesDay

  1. It’s interesting because the team has done initiatives with indigenous groups, but other indigenous groups are currently asking for name and logo changes, and the team didn’t post anything on indigenous people’s day, which is a bit odd if honouring native Americans is central to their team identity.

  2. The logo is 1) not racist, its regarded as extremely respectful, ask any native. There have been dozens of movements to change the logo that always fail to gain traction because the native communities are vocal about wanting to keep the logo, 2) never changing, it’s regarded as one of the best logos in all of sports and 3) you’re objectively wrong, the vast majority of both hockey fans and sports fans love the logo

This is a very casual take from someone who hasn’t researched the Blackhawks’ history enough and clearly hasn’t been a hockey fan very long

  3. They could easily change their branding and logos to be inspired by the Common Black Hawk Buteogallus anthracinus
. I mean, it's a southwestern species, and isn't found in Chicago, but it would be cool anyway.

U.S. Military helicopters being named after Native American tribes is controversial too.

  4. Did you know that if you mix a red ant colony with a black ant colony, they will kill each other. Maybe you should protest this since all you want to do is complain about everything that you know nothing about…

  5. Completely agree. Im a hawks fans for decades, but "closeted" for this reason. I wont buy any merch or rep the name or logo. I get the fans and organization's attachment to it, I get that would be a loss for them. And it's still racist. Do the right thing and move on with another better more meaningful logo. Really wish they would not die on this hill. Thanks for talking about it.

  6. The dumb ones don’t realize it’s a tribute to what otherwise would probably be forgotten. so just let her and her other two personalities fight over this while nobody listens or cares

  7. Look up Chief Black Hawk (the man represented on the logo, he's not just a random caricature of a Native American stereotype like other professional and college teams that have changed their logos) and the multitude of ways he is memorialized across northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin besides the hockey team. The Blackhawks aren't perfect but when it comes to the history of the Black Hawk tribe and Native American history in general they put in a decent effort to be respectful. I would say that they could definitely do more to educate fans though.

  8. The Cleveland Indians logo was racist, as was the Washington Redskins name. But the Blackhawks logo nor the name itself is racist. You may find it offensive, but the majority of Native Americans actually support it. Stop lying and trying to speak for an entire people.
