  1. Watched this in real time and I have never been more hyped after a basketball game. Was just absolutely insane

  2. I was camping in central California during this game and I found the game on a scratchy AM radio station. I sat in the seat of my truck listening to the whole game. Everybody I was with was making fun of me. Completely lost my mind when the shot went in. It was party time after that.

  3. I’m not even gonna pretend, I honestly thought they were gonna lose that game. They fought tooth and nail and the Kings were right there and didn’t back down. Plus that Game 6 was….yeah. at any rate won that game, and the series and the trophy.

  4. Heck of a sequence of events. Kobe had an okay shot, Shaq had a putback opportunity. Kings had incredible defense throughout, and Vlade tapping it out would have been a great decision 99 out of 100 times, but there’s Robert fucking Horry just at the right place at the rightest of times, being that 1 guy

  5. Almost all the human emotions experienced in like 10 seconds when that happened.

Crazy how with how talented Kobe and Shaq were it still took 3 for 4 “moments” for the three peat to happen.

  6. Watching this game with my family and my girlfriend (at the time) and her mom.  They were from Sacramento.

I remember everyone erupting in celebration, my mom shouting “he cool, he cool!”

Then I looked at my gf and her mom, all quiet and on the couch.

The relationship didn’t work out and sometimes I wonder if that day played a part.

  7. Vlade Divac’s to-do list:

    1. Defend Kobe. ✅

    2. Defend Shaq.✅

    3. Knock the ball away. ✅

    4. Pray to the Sacramento gods. ✅

    5. Win game. 🚫

  8. My good friends Dad passed earlier in the day. Went over his house for a gathering and they had this game on. I’ll forever regret my enthusiastic display of celebration when Bob hit that game winner

  9. I remember my wife and I were out shopping and I was watching that at a mall TV store with about 20-25 other people.

When Big Shot dropped that ‘lucky’ shot, the whole place went bonkers—us, the staff, mall security. A crazy, electric atmosphere.

  10. It always amazes me how close Webber was to getting a piece on that shot. I feel like he was just an inch off. Basketball gods be good

  11. Saw it live – i screamed so loud my mom rushed into the living room thinking something bad happened

This was truly a huge shot as if it had not gone in, the lakers wouldve fallen behind 1-3 in the series (close to no way to come back vs this incredible kings squad)

That game 7 win on the road in sac was something else

  12. The ball movement from this era looks so different. Kobe drove to the rim with no intention of passing the ball out for a three-point attempt. The rebound caromed to Rob, tipped out of a scrum. It’s fascinating to see how much the game has changed in favor of the long ball over the last quarter of a century.

  13. Saw this live! Teenage me had the foresight to record the game on vhs 📼 in case anything really awesome happened. ☺️😎

    For those who don’t recall:

Kings were whooping our ass for 3.5 quarters. Bibby and Webber were on fucking fire 🔥, without even looking it up I know they shot upwards of 60% because they were swishing everything. Lakers were down 20 at halftime, Kings opened up the 3rd with a 3 from Bobby Jackson to go up by 23, with the momentum securely in their favor. Or so it seemed….

Such a fine line between greatness and oblivion.
On the final play, If Vlade Divac doesn’t volleyball the ball to the top of the key, Lakers don’t win. But he did, and we did. 🤩🥹🤯🫢

  14. Underdiscussed aspect of this… how did Kobe and Shaq miss those gimmies?

Also underdiscussed, Kobe had his arms up in celebration while the ball was at its peak. He knew it was in.

  15. I haven’t seen this in a while, but now it reminds me of Miguel Rojas’ game-tying home run in the ninth inning of Game 7 of the World Series, as an OMG!! HOLY SHIT!! WTF?? moment.

  16. It was a BIG SHOT back then, but nowadays, that shot is routine.

When Kobe drove into the lane, he drew the entire defense into the paint. Kobe could have passed to Shaq or alley-oop to him, or shot the floater himself as he tried to do in this play.

Nowadays, the pass would’ve went to Horry as that is the first option for the pass, whoever is open for the 3.
