[Speier] The Red Sox primary targets remain fairly consistent: Alex Bregman, Bo Bichette, Ketel Marte, Isaac Paredes, and Brendan Donovan. There are additional alternatives on both the trade and free agent markets, but to date, that group of five occupies the front-burner pursuits.

  1. The entire Bregman situation continues to be really confusing to me, and I think it makes the Devers trade return significantly worse.

  2. I’m interested in Bo, Bregman, Marte or Donovan. Bregman and Donovan seem to be the likeliest matches, I just don’t see them ponying up for Bo, and I’m feeling like Arizona isn’t sending us Marte without getting Early or Tolle in return. Donovan isn’t exciting but would fit in well and likely have a much more affordable price than Marte. Paredes is a great fit for Fenway but I’m not in love with his profile overall. My gut still says we bring Bregman back in the end.

  3. would love getting Bo over bregman, moving him to 2nd and Marcello at 3rd fixes alot of holes

  4. Bichette or Marte for me. Bregman is going to make Rendon look like a dirt dog on his next deal.

I’d also prefer Donovan to Bregman.

  5. I wish Paredes was a better defender because I’m very curious what his swing would look like at Fenway. His HR total might decrease but I think he’d pepper the monster more than anyone we’ve seen in a long time.

  6. Daily reminder that re-signing Bregman doesn’t qualify as an “addition,” even though the vampires at FSG will try and sell it as one.

  7. Real question. Is there any way possible way Bo doesn’t sign with Toronto?

He almost certainly wants to stay and finish the job. And the front office has both the need and the money.

We’d have to offer him insane money, which I don’t see this front office doing.

  8. We saw it with Bregman last year, if the market collapses for one of these guys (either free agent or trade market) and the Red Sox can get them on a low risk or low years deal then it’ll happen. I wouldn’t expect anything until post-Super Bowl.

  9. The next free agent signing will push the Red Sox to the 6th highest payroll in MLB. What will this sub complain about then? The fact that we’re not paying 70 million a year for Soto?

  10. So again, what this means is that the Red Sox are not aggressively pursuing anyone. They are in on these guys if their markets don’t pan out and they can get them cheaper.

If the Red Sox aggressively wanted Marte this deal would be done already.

They are absolutely waiting on Bichette to see if he will come cheap.

And Bregman is very likely a problem, again, with years on the deal.

  11. Consistent? I recall when the reporting was that the goal was to sign two of Alonso, Schwarber, Breggy, Okamoto, and Realmuto
