Rielly had 44 goals and 210 assists for 254 points between 2017-18 and 2021-22, an average of about 10 goals and 50 assists for 60 points each season.

Do you guys think he would have made the national team?

  1. I don’t think he’d have been a lock either year, but he probably would have been in contention for a spot.

  2. It’s definitely possible, but unlikely imo. Seems Hockey Canada has built their ideal D (outside Makar) as defenders with long reach, who can play a tough game, I don’t think Rielly fits what they would be looking for.

  3. I think he would be like Evan Bouchard this year. Has a case for being on the team but ultimately doesn’t make it because there are too many better players and a couple vets that are going to be on the team regardless of skill level.

  4. He would’ve had a good shot in 22, had a great year. Only 1 canadian left shot dmen finished ahead of him in Norris voting.

  5. Mrs Reilly, we have been over this. Your son is an excellent defense man but to play for team Canada is something….special.

Please stop asking and campaigning on behalf of your son.

  6. There was one stretch during one season where he looked good enough to make the team. Our forwards will generate all the offense we need most of the time. No way a guy who is a negative defender has much value to a national team.

  7. I think he would especially in 2018. People can hate on Mo all they want but he’s a real soldier for this team. His 2019 season will always be memorable to me plus his performance in the 23 playoffs.

  8. Maybe. The timing might not have worked out for him. His career year was 2018-19 where he played all 82 games with 20 goals and 72 points. Really an outstanding offensive season for a D man. If they were picking a national team soon after this he might be in consideration.

  9. No. There have been times I’ve loved Mo, but realistically he’s not at that level.

  10. I think so.

He’s fallen off a lot in the last few years, but there was a time when he was one of Canada’s best.

  11. I think his best years were before he signed his 8 year deal in 2021, then has bounced between initially a great hometown discount signing and overpaid offensive first D. He still has his moments but even in 2022 I’m not sure he was a top 8 Canadian D especially if they were picking 4 left and 4 rights
