Doubt we ever had legit interest, but that’s a Yankees target off the board
Fuck the Yankees.
Yeah that surely means Framber’s 100% not re-signing with the Astros now that Hunter Brown’s their ace rn, I wonder who has the balls to sign Framber after that crossing incident
63 mil max for 3 years with opt outs every year. Market’s weird this year.
As someone who hates the Astros I love this signing. They aren’t one good pitcher away from being great next year and either he flops and they’re stuck with him for 3 years or he’s legit and he opts out. Almost zero chance as a Sox fan I look back at this contract in November and decide it was the thing that derailed our season. And he didn’t sign with the Yankees, so there’s that
I would have been OK with these deal.
There was almost no talk of Houston signing this guy, so let that be a lesson for people who take offseason “interest” reports seriously.
I think Imai will be okay but just does nothing for Red Sox or Yankees. Cubs, Giants, Athletics, and Orioles miss because of thier depth issues.
Imai is around the skill of Oviedo, Early, Crawford, Warren, and Gil. Astros lost Framber and were giving starts to Colton Gordon, Jason Alexander, Ryan Gusto, Ronel Blanco, Hayden Wesneski, Spencer Arrighetti, and Brandon Walter. Their arm depth has gone to shit. Imai improves the Astros but not one that already has good staff depth.
Sox are fine when it comes to pitching
At that contract might have been worth kicking the tires on, idk how I feel about 36 year old Sonny Gray as your number 2 starter but I’m not gonna be upset over a guy the red sox likely weren’t all that in on.
