Paul Blackburn on the difference between the Mets and Yankees clubhouses: “When I got to the Yankees,it was very noticeable how everyone was pulling on the same rope… There was a lot of chemistry in the clubhouse. That’s not how it was with the Mets.

But I have it on good info that Aaron Boone actually has no control of anything and is a dumbass.
Paul Blackburn….the batting practice thrower?
Why is our big free agent signing starting shit with the Mets?
Mets fans knocking the ability of Paul, but what does that have to do with it?
Not that it really matters.
He was ass for us. Of course he’s going to look for anything to blame it on.
Well when you got to the clubhouse we realized you weren’t very good

his stats suggest he was one of the guys not pulling on the rope in queens
Is there like some kind of immortal goblin that lives in Queens, who just stirs shit up in the Mets organization? Like how can a team with as much money and talent as the Mets have had just constantly find new ways to be dysfunctional? It’s mind boggling.
love a guy with a 1-5 record and a 6 ERA going “yeah the chemistry was bad” like man maybe everyone was stressed because they knew you were gonna throw BP lmfao
I’m sure Yankee fans were thrilled to have him back…
Expect Luke Weaver to return fire shortly
Will this give us another Steve Cohen apology? I’m leaning towards a yes
If I recall Paul Blackbum had a little hissy fit when we asked him to move to the bullpen, and immediately got shelled.
But I’m sure the guy with a lifetime ERA of 5 knows what a winning clubhouse looks like
The Mets were all pulling on the same rope last year. It was just attached to the ceiling.
This is code for Paul not liking Soto’s Mom.
I mean Blackburn sucks, but this tracks with the stories coming out of both clubhouses this season. The Yankees seemed to rally around each other and the Mets seemed to have noticeable tension within the team, particularly between Soto and Lindor. Someone smarter than me can explain why that is, but for whatever reason the Yankees had a better team culture than the Mets in 2025.
We call that, “burning bridges”.
Given how often he was hurt I’m surprised he was around enough to get a legitimate gauge on the clubhouse chemistry.
He gonna get shelled if he pitches in the subway series
mets fans are going to clown on this but i’m more just seeing this as one of the reasons why yankees are comfortable “running it back, the team chemistry was really good, don’t want to fuck with the good vibes
I actually like to hear this. I’d like to know the moves made were for a reason like this. 2025 went sideways mid-June an we don’t have answers
Obviously I’m biased but having a clubhouse led by guys like Judge and Stanton definitely contributes to a team-first environment.
This guy running to the post when the Mets were one less blown lead by him away from being in the playoffs is rich
Team chemistry is definitely underrated.
But in 2024 the OMG Mets had the best clubhouse in MLB. Winning creates a good clubhouse. Not the reverse
Yeah they all form a circle and tug on the rope, been that way in the Yankee’s clubhouse since time immemorial.
Oh it’s the New York Post, good to know this is meaningless
It’s interesting seeing the Mets fans shooting the messenger when there is probably some truth to the message.
1-5 with a 6.00 ERA and -.7 WAR in 9 GS btw
Listen, maybe he’s not wrong, but people keep suggesting the lack of chemistry, especially between Lindor and Nimmo, is why the Mets fell apart. Let’s be exceedingly clear: the hitting was not the problem.
The Mets failed because their pitching was *abysmal* in the second half. There was a stretch of like six weeks in which David Peterson was the only starter to make it out of the fifth inning. We traded for all-star closer Ryan Helsley, who promptly became the worst reliever in baseball. Our flamethrower setup man Ryne Stanek was almost as bad. The team had the best offensive month *in team history* in August, yet finished with a *losing record* for the month. That’s inconceivable.
Lack of chemistry among stars surely doesn’t help. I’m sure it did make a difference. But someone explain how the left fielder and shortstop not getting along has no appreciable impact on the hitting but somehow absolutely decimates the entire pitching staff. It doesn’t make sense.
As is the case with every team, winning solves all the problems, and losing exacerbates them. I don’t think the team tanked because they lacked chemistry. I think their horrible performance made everything tense and *brought out* the lack of chemistry.
The Yanks would sit round pulling rope
How’d the Mets go from the immaculate vibes of the OMG season to this garbage?
Blackburn is not the only former Met to report clubhouse issues. It seems some Mets players didn’t get along and really hurt the team chemistry. That is what ultimately lead to their collapse. It continues to prove the old adage true, you can sign the best players but if they don’t get along you can’t win. The Mets last season were talented but could never seem to put it together for a long winning streak after their hot start.
Who tf does this guy think he is lol, maybe try not being total ass for *both of those teams* before you start running your mouth
The Yanks and Mets shitting on each other is my favorite offseason tradition
Yeah I’m sure the Mets clubhouse is the reason he had a 6 ERA during his time in Queens.
Honestly, I don’t remember Blackburn being on the team long enough to make this kind of assessment.
I think like the full quote he really credits the 2024 vibes to Jose Inglesias and kinda said those vibes just weren’t the same. Which like fair, everyone needs a vibes guy to hold things together. Or someone to show team leadership. I think Lindor does have good 1:1 moments but I don’t think he’s like a huge everyone get together and sing guy or organizes the team meetings
NY media gonna feast on this one for the next week lol
Seems Blackburn is still a little sore from being cut by the Mets for being absolute cheeks.
Fucking loser, terrible fucking pitcher
My bad Blackburn. I wasn’t aware the Yankee way was the power of friendship and the Mets were the toxic ones
I won’t comment on the Mets, but or guys definitely do seem to get along as an outsider looking in. That only accounts for so much. I’m more concerned with hitting with runners on or having an above decent bullpen or shortstops who make routine plays. You know, the things that really win ballgames
Seems Stearns felt this way to and that’s why Nimmo and Alsonso are gone. Also why Diaz left too probably.
