[Pagnotta] Some tough Leafs news: Chris Tanev’s regular-season may be over. Per sources, Tanev is meeting with a surgeon in the coming week to determine next steps. If they move forward with surgery, he is expected to be out until late-April/early-May.

Dang.
Rough year for the guy. The silver lining is it gives him even more time to rest his brain after those 2 knocks he took earlier.
Pack it up.
Unfortunate, but this was going to happen sooner or later. Hope he returns fully healthy next season.
That being said, this should be a wake-up call to finally build actual D depth, whether via the draft (LOL!), trades, etc. This team hasn’t had much promising young defencemen since… Liljegren or Sandin? š¬
Danford is a nice piece, at least.
Jake Muzzin V2 š
This is the toughest of soaks. Even if we manage to make the playoffs it’s unlikely he’d be in game shape to return.
I saw people joking about Rielly being sent to Robidas island which didn’t make sense because Rielly isn’t injured. Tanev might actually make it there. Super sucks.
If we make the Playoffs Iād rather have him come back healthy and fresh than being beaten into the ground for 3 more months.
Itās obviously never good to see a guy injured but I donāt hate the silver lining.
Brutal news for Tanev, a lot of hard miles on his body at this point. Not good to have a second significant injury this year.
Makes the emergence of Stecher and the return of a healthy (and hopefully more capable) Carlo all the more important.
Another fine aged contractā¦.
Well, this was always the risk with Tanev. He’s in the later years of his career, he has an injury history, and he plays a pretty physical style of defence that gets him banged up. But when he’s on the ice, he’s always the best d-man out there. Great hockey IQ, does all the little things extremely well, and he’ll do anything to stop a puck from reaching the net.
I hope he gets good news, and if he’s out for the year, I wish him a good recovery.
Just means I have to watch Rielly play more minutes. Lovely.
And we’re still waiting word on McCabe right?
Defense was supposed to be a strength this year. With the way Mo is playing we may as well not have a top 4 right now.
This isn’t meant to write off his career, because I’m sure he’ll be back, at least by next season. But I can’t think of a better assistant coach to focus on the defense when his career is over.
š¢ Enjoy the island Chris, we’ll miss you.
Sorry to hear this. So does he go on LTIR and leafs can recover the cap space?
With Rielly being an anchor this season, the leafs need a strong D
Chris Tanev fully rested and in tip top condition for the playoffs? SIGN ME RIGHT IN BABY!!
(I’m not delusional, you are, shut up.)
Have a speedy and full recovery warrior šš«
Robidas, Lupul, Hainsey, Muzzin, Tanev
Reilly needs to join him.
We all knew heād end up LTIRetired we just figured it would be in year 3 or 4 of the deal.
Man thatās sad to hear š
just fell to my knees
They fixed LTIR in the playoffs!! But on a serious note I’m so sad. He’s just so damn stable back there.

Another one shipped to Robidas island..
Iām just glad they said season over and not career over, hope heās able to get back to form

š for a full recovery
Now we rely on one of our most incompetent gms Ā to get us a defenceman⦠this should be funĀ

Robidas Island awaits. Thanks for your service Chris.
At least we have clarity and can now take the necessary steps to replace him, right?
Oh wait, we have a nothingburger nepo baby GM who is objectively bad at his job.
Well shitĀ
Leafs getting killed with injuries
Heās had too much wear and tear by this point. Iād be surprised to see him play again to be honest.
