“We’re going to focus on speed and defense”
– signs Josh Bell (one of the worst defenders in the league)
– trades for Eric Wagaman (slow, poor defender)
– signs Orlando Arcia (no longer a high level defender)
They are lying through their teeth lol. I could justify it if the guys could smack the ball around. But 2 of the 3 are awful at the plate.
Doing this whilst committing to not trading Ryan, Buxton or Lopez is malpractice. Genuine malpractice. Either put your money where your mouth is and BUILD (which they clearly arent and wont do), or trade them for hauls to build again for 3 years time
It baffles me that people can look at what this team is and say we can compete
Genuinely baffled at the people that saw this team go 70-92 and finish 19-35 WITH A HEALTHY BYRON BUXTON and think “they could win the division.”
Their big free agent signing has a negative WAR over the past three seasons. They have the worst bullpen in MLB.
Insulting to the fan base to pretend this is about trying to win the division vs avoiding a last place finish.
