WWP NIGHT w/ the GRAND RAPIDS GRIFFINS TICKETS (with Limited Edition Signed Puck): [https://griffinshockey.com/wwp](https://griffinshockey.com/wwp)
2026 is off to a bit of a rocky start for the Detroit Red Wings, and Todd McLellan isn’t hesitating to make changes.
Tune in as we start by recapping Detroit’s back-to-back losses to Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins, including the Emmitt Finnie-Dylan Larkin-Lucas Raymond line struggling, Moritz Seider, Simon Edvinsson, and the rest of the Red Wings team seeming worn out (aside from Andrew Copp, Patrick Kane, and Alex DeBrincat), and more. Also, McLellan’s new-look lineup, including John Leonard called back up from the Grand Rapids Griffins, what to make of Finnie, Nate Danielson, and Axel Sandin-Pellikka, whether Marco Kasper and Elmer Soderblom can shake things up with Larkin, and plenty more.
After that, we dive into what may be ailing Lucas Raymond and Dylan Larkin, whose 5-on-5 slumps have been significant – result of injury, or something else? Next, NHL & international hockey news, including Logan Stanley dropping Brady Tkachuk, more on the Olympic hockey rosters (Edvinsson being left off) and Bill Guerin’s tactics with Hughes, Fox, and Robertson being left off Team USA, World Juniors updates as Eddie Genborg & Sweden move on and Finland shocking the U.S., & more.
All of that & lots more before we take your questions and comments in our Overtime segment – enjoy!

Happy New Year from New Mexico! We have high hopes for the new year with this resilient Red Wings team. Maybe the Griffins success will percolate to Detroit!
Excited to see you goobers on the 17th, thanks for always putting out a great show for the boys. LGRW 🐙 🏒 🤘
Happy new years from Edmonton guys, thanks for all the news and podcasts . And a happy and healthy 2026 to all of you ❤
I'm not sure who gets bumped but I want JVR netfront on PP1 again. It was working so well and hasn't looked as good since Kane came back. Not saying it is Kane's fault but hate to see them go away from what was working
If you watch last episode, you can hear when Ryan jinxed the Pitts by calling them not good this year!!
Danielson is the best looking youngster
Mbn is what this roster needs, someone a tom Wilson. Also the horrible passing needs to change
How finnie is getting more ice than Danielson is insane. Just watch the eye test
The Sky isn't falling because of two games. The panic is setting in because the flaws on this team have been apparent for a while, the cracks were there, and we're seeing the flaws play out in a bad way.
Also, teams keying in on frustrating Detroit's transistion game is funny considering we shed two Dmen great at transition two years ago and never bothered to adequately replace them. Our one puck mover is a rookie forced into the role thanks to our GM's amazing GMing.
With the changes we have a player that can drive each line.
1st. Larkin
2nd. Debrincat
3rd. Raymond
4th. Rasmussen
I am going to enjoy watching 4 lines with an elite player on each!
Prediction for tonight: 4-2 wings 🔮 🔮
Playoffs will mean nothing if 5 on 5 hockey doesn’t get better. That second game was pathetic.
Wings have a chemistry problem. Like it or not, Wings are 3 players out of contention not including between the pipes. We got bullied.
They need to put Rasmussen on waivers he is back to his old self of not playing physical. He sucks hr is always 3 steps behind. I watch a shift of Rasmussen play and it makes me want to change the channel.
Finnie looked slow the other night.
41:44 There is an echo chamber trap that pretty much all podcasters fall into.
Spending years complaining about something will get you caught in a loop of repetitive statements and analysis.
You see this with Rogan, politcal shows, etc.
As fans, most of us have been complaining about the wings for 9 years and its a hard habit to change.
I am satisfied with the mid-season results
“Preoccupied with a single leaf, you won’t see the tree. Preoccupied with a single tree, you’ll miss the entire forest.”
The changes Todd makes is not punishment with a whip. Its a psychological juggle. Shaking things up is healthy. You guys are hilarious. The Wings have chemistry issues above all short comings.
ASP is doing fine. Mentally he's well above most of the team. Its hard playing with the Mentally limited.
Pelica should be a forward. He is soft and needs to be traded. Larkin and Raymond have been getting bullied since the beginning of the year by the younger bigger new talent in the league. There are no longer line 1 players. 2nd and 3rd line.
Sky is fall8ng because larkin looks like trash again, no hustle, gives the puck up as soon as he gets it, not skating with the puck, throwing the puck across the middle blindly when a defender approaches him on the wing. He can't keep doing this and be a 1c, especially in games that count in the second half of the season, thats a big problem.
In his past 10 games, Raymond has had three games with one shot and two games with no shots. Frustrating.
If Raymond has a shoulder issue, he’s shouldn’t be going to the Olympics this year. He will be going to future Olympics with Sweden. But he’s paid a lot of money to play for the Wings.
Danielson has been actually creating some nice chances but ive seen far too manu of those butchered by the player om the other side of the passes
This may be a bit of an overreact, but the game in Ottawa is probably the most important game of the season. If they dont have a MASSIVE bounce back, I don't think they make playoffs
I'm sure Detroit makes sens goalie look vezina caliber tonight.
I think Danielson would gain more from staying in Detroit and being part of a good team. I would be more trying to jump start him with Larkin to get going. Danielson has had some chemistry with Finnie especially on PP2. Danielson has had in close chances that he got goalie’ed on. Kasper has had way less chances. I would be trying to get Danielson going to be honest. Maybe Danielson at wing can free himself up a bit. Worst case, you could consider putting Finnie and Danielson with Larkin if you want to create a speed based line. I would put Kasper as a checking center as he has not brought any offense this year. I am not feeling Soderblom as a first line winger at all.
1st loss to the Penguins wasn't all that rough. Crosby went off to start and the Wings fought to get the point. Second one ehhhh lol.
I have hard time believing we are best team in the Eastern Conference. Yet we maybe close?
We need to get one more Star player in the youth.
Cossa could really be the key.
I’m glad we didn’t get Hughes. Yet maybe we really do need top tier left handed d man.
Why hasn’t danielson got a chance at top line wing?
I dont mean to be an alarmist here. But each of the last 2 seasons, at this time the wings were in a playoff spot, then lost both games of a home and home and fell off a cliff….
I get why you would say a forward (2C) is our biggest need but I think it's a top 4dman who is good breaking up transitions and winning board battles in his own end. Too often the wings get caught in their own zone for long stretches of the game. Doesn't matter having talented scorers like debrincat, Raymond, Kane, if you are stuck in your own end. Another defensively sound dman (preferably with size and good use of it) means the forwards can spend more time in the ozone making everyone look better
