He was good at the start of the season and now he’s not. Way she goes.
He’s on a slump and he’s paid at a level where you’re allowed a slump. He carried the team on his back through the first part of the season.
Father Time may have finally caught up with him.
It’s expected due to his age. He’s not getting any younger than that.
He’s been bad for a bit now. It is what it is. He doesn’t carry play anymore. He’s still a good finisher and great on the boards and everything but he’s not going to carry a line. He needs a Nylander to do that.
I mean im glad we didnt give him 6M lol
It’s not his role anymore. As long as he has some grit left in him, he’s worth it.

He’s going to light it up coming off the Olympic break and finish the season with about 80 points and 30 goals.
Second most points on the team with a cap hit of 4.38 , second in goals at 35 years old after almost getting his neck snapped off , I’m not worried at all about Johnny T.
Dont even start on JT you fucking dummies, he coulda got WAY more money elsewhere, he’s about as passionate as it gets.
Dude has been one of our best, if not the best, player this season so far.
He’s gonna be a beast after the break.

With his current contract and age it’s more acceptable with his production but definitely know he can do more and hope he comes outta it soon
I never worry about Tavares. Tavares is who is is and it’s who he’s always been. Bigger things to worry about on this team

At this point in his career hes should be a 3C but is playing 2C and carried the team at 1C for a good chunk of the season. As another comment pointed out, hes on pace for matching his career points per game average, and is still elite at faceoffs, being 7th overall by faceoff%.
I think hes doing all that you could ask from him, tbh. Yeah, hes in one of the biggest slumps of his career at this point, but hes also only getting paid 4.5m aav or whatever, and he’s more than earned the right to a slump like this imo.
If he was still making his 11 mil id be pissed. At his current contract he is the least of our problems
He was also one of the only bright spots on the team when the Leafs were freefalling through the standings, and was arguably our best player during the first quarter of the season.
