By no means are these world beater numbers, and yes CJ needs to score more TDs. But you can’t look at these numbers and tell me that CJ isn’t a franchise QB. Even without the numbers, CJ passes the eye test. All CJ needs to keep doing is protecting the ball and we should always score enough points to let our defense close it out.

61% is not great
He was having a great game against the 49ers before he got injured.
the completion percentage isn’t great but across a 17 game season the overall numbers would be quite good, but not top level. the INT number in particular is solid.
he needs to hit more of his outside throws though. he sails a lot of those and he didn’t really seem to do that in his rookie year. if he can clean that up he can be close to elite.
I feel like Stroud needs to really learn to deal with pressure. Once a team starts getting pressure to him he completely falls apart whereas elite QBs can navigate a pocket and slide/scramble away from pressure and make a play
I think 2 of those INTs were tipped at the line.
You gloss over it, but he’s basically putting up 10 points a game, we add 3-6 FG’s, and that’s our offense. It works, but that’s having a number 1 defense. My eye test of stroud is mixed. He certainly does some things well, but he does plenty to question his ability. The 9 yard loss toss away at the feet of the lineman yesterday is a perfect example, he wasn’t even under a ton of pressure when he tossed it, it was like he was just tired of looking and gave up. Just my opinion if he wants 60 million dollars, he has to have better football instincts than that.
The other thing, is he a strong enough qb to elevate those around him, or is he like Purdy and needs all the right pieces to succeed.
I think CJs best seasons are in front of him.
His player comparison coming out of college was Jared Goff after all. They do have a fairly similar game
The stats aren’t great, but it’s hard to judge any QB in a one-dimensional offense. Defenses completely ignore our anemic run game and know they don’t have to sell out to stop the pass. I’m not saying CJ is perfect, but he’s shown enough that with even modest IOL upgrades, this offense would look noticeably better almost immediately.
I know it’s maybe not a popular opinion, but I say pay the man. I couldn’t bear another years-long stretch of not having a franchise QB. He isn’t perfect, but I remember the grass on the other side. It isn’t greener.
These are the stats needed to make a deep push this year. As long as he doesn’t turn the ball over and can get to fg range we have a chance vs any AFC team.
is there a super like button and just close comments we got a bunch of reddit “coaches” in here blabbing nonsense
Id say no doubt, CJ has improved since he came back after his concussion. Give credit where credit is due. Not to say he doesn’t still have a bit of improving to do!
Love the stats but you’re shortchanging Stroud by only looking at the last 6 games. He played a half against the colts. Look at his last 9 full games.
Stroud has been playing really well over his last 9 games and he typically elevates his game in the playoffs.
His last 9:
8-1
2,194 yards (243 yards / game)
16 touchdowns
5 interceptions.
If he continues to play like that or better, we’re winning it all.
You run those averages over 17 games and those are QB numbers that would put him in the top 5 stat wise for yards and touchdowns. He’d be right with Drake Maye number wise. Drake Maye is getting MVP love and considered elite this year.
Stroud is our guy and he’s only 24.
I dont think 11th with an oline giving up no sacks is all that great. What placemnt makes a franchise QB? 16 and above are not? 10 and above are?
Can he be a game manager type sure but remember we will be paying 60 mill plus a year. Taking away from lots of other good athletes as we cant afford them. Add the salary for Anderson.
Real thought has to be given to having a qb 17 or 18 and getting the best running backs money can buy. Then making the defense even better.
Or say good buy to a great defense and have a mid QB.
In advanced stats he’s WAY better. EPA per play has him like 7th of all QBs. This offense is clunky AF and it isn’t his fault.
> you can’t look at these numbers and tell me that CJ isn’t a franchise QB
Sounds like you have a *really* low standard for “Franchise QB.” Those aren’t even top-10 numbers when expanded out to a full season. “Serviceable” would probably be a better term.
