New Astros pitcher Tatsuya Imai famously pulled out Trevor Bauer’s “sword celly” after outdueling him during Interleague play last season. Imai struck out 13 in that game, finishing with a 17-K shutout, while Bauer gave up three runs in the loss.

Imai now heads to the majors with a 3.15 career ERA in NPB.

  1. I hate Trevor Bauer, but this sub is weirdly obsessed with a guy that hasn’t played in the majors since 2021. There’s a couple of posts a week about him, which is insane because he’s completely irrelevant.

  2. Friendly reminder because it’s funny, Trevor Bauer had the worst ERA among qualified Central League starters at the time of his demotion to the NPB minors in 2025. He was not called back up and finished the year with the highest ERA of anyone that pitched more than 45 innings (he threw 133 innings).

  3. Can someone explain the sword celebration? Like he’s sheathing his sword after throwing a strike?

I read this like 10 times and still can’t make sense of it
