Espanyol have been enjoying a strong season and it seems that one of their players impressed the Barcelona dressing room during Saturday’s Catalan derby.

According to AS, the Barca players “spoke with great admiration about Carlos Romero’s performance” after the game at the RCDE Stadium.

Romero came up against Lamine Yamal on Saturday night and did a good job against the teenager, ensuring he didn’t have the impact he would have wanted against Espanyol.

The stats show he didn’t commit a single foul in the game, had the most touches of all Espanyol’s players, won 50% of his duels and recovered five balls.

Romero has been catching the eye fairly regularly for Espanyol this season, with AS suggesting he may now be a target for Barcelona, and scored a brilliant goal against Athletic Club in December.

Romero is currently only on loan at Espanyol from Villarreal and has a contract with the Yellow Submarine that runs until 2029.

His contract is believed to include a release clause set at around €45 million and he certainly looks like one to watch out for during the second half of the 2025-26 season.
