You are knowledgeable and clearly huge Mets fans, but I just can't believe that you don't see that they are punting this year. I don't care if there are 1,000 WAR worth of players left on the market – the Mets aren't getting enough of them and, there aren't even enough spots on the Mets roster to place the amount of players it would take to make this team competitive, unless they jettisoned even more current players. The team, as currently-constituted, is a fourth place team at best AND it features much less power and run production and less fan favorites for the fanbase to root for. Jorge Polanco and Luke Warren aren't bringing people to the ballpark or selling merch. Regardless of all the justifications for moving them or letting them go, they gutted the heart of the team.
