[The Athletic] Why this Reckless Rookie is the Next Elite Quarterback

  1. The new HC’s priorities need to be:
    1) Develop Jaxson Dart
    2) Protect Jaxson Dart
    3) Give Jaxson Dart more weapons

  2. I dunno, man, some poster showed me a bunch of advanced stats I’ve never heard of, from a website I’ve never been to, that definitely pointed to trading this guy and starting over.

Jokes aside, the kid clearly has “it” and can develop into a top QB with the right organizational moves.

  3. I really wish we could have seen him with Nabers (at all), Skattebo (more games), WanDale and Tracy for all his starts.

If he had all those guys, and maybe Theo could hold on to the ball, he surely would have evolved more as a pocket passer, making his designed rushes and off script plays even more effective.

Looking forward to his year 2 ascension.

  4. That footwork mess at 3:20 is…something. But it is at least something that I’m confident can be improved without completely breaking the guy’s playstyle.

  5. This offseason is a big one for him. I hope he has the work ethic needed to succeed.

  6. Dart is great off script and he has pretty good pocket awareness And that’s something you can’t coach.

Hopefully whoever the new coach is will help him to continue to develop the mental part of his game

  7. The playing under center stuff is gonna just take time. It takes time for all young qbs. I also wanted to lose the last 2 but Dart got real reps and that’s always been the goal for the season.

  8. Strictly talking about pocket presence, he reminds me of Joe Burrow. Very elusive in the pocket, great creativity, and ability to extend plays.

  9. Dart has excellent composure and arm talent, two things you rarely see develop after entering the NFL.

He also has goofy-ass footwork, a real case of happy feet, that will limit his deep passing until he can fix it.

But if I had to bet on a guy with composure gaining good footwork, or a guy with good footwork gaining composure, yes, I’d bet on Dart over Jones.

  10. I believe with great certainty that Kafka will remain the head coach. Ownership has set a precedent that they won’t spend big on a new coach. That with Schoens retention makes me think they want Kafka to remain.  That being said… Even if theres a new coach, much of Darts development and draft pick will depend on what identity this offense is going to have moving forward. The 5 overall pick, imho, would be wasted on a defensive player or a lineman. Get Dart as many young weapons as possible right now. Which leads us to the identity crisis. With Cam coming back, and o line much improved, can we be a power running team? If so, drafting Love from ND would be a great one two punch with Dart getting rushing yards as well. Can we be an elite passing team with Nabers, Theo, and a possible return of Wandale? If so, drafting Tate from OSU would be a great addition. It would make that wr room very strong. Either way, it’s going to be on Dart to work on the things and improve within that identity. I believe he’s the guy that can do it.

  11. The new coach just needs to get him to set his feet in clean pockets.

He back foot’s way too many deep throws and it makes him look like he has no deep accuracy.

  12. Dart is a true backyard player. Very tough to scheme and if he grows and improves fundamentals, Sky is the limit.
